sorry for not having time for coloring this,it looks really wonderful but time was really not on my side, but its beautiful

i was always meaning to ask, how did you get the lines so perfectly done like that? did you use traditional ink or digital?

Oshouki In reply to Frost7 [2009-05-04 21:03:01 +0000 UTC]

No problem. That's why I had offered you to sit out the March project.

This was digitally inked in SAI. The longer flowing lines were vectored (also in SAI), because it's really hard to steady the hand for long lines while drawing on the tablet.

wow,how do you make the lines vary from size and flow, because the size i use, all the lines seem to be same size all the time, unlike PS,where the lines vary from the pen pressure and flow settings. i wish SAI had such a thing too.

Oshouki In reply to Frost7 [2009-05-06 23:40:06 +0000 UTC]

SAI does make use of pressure sensitivity!! I think it does it better than PS.

To do the vector lines, you have to create it in a "Line Work Layer." I use the Freehand pen tool and draw my lines are usual. Then I use the node tool to adjust positioning. Then I adjust, if necessary, the overall line width with the "Thickness" tool and tweak the thickness of a node with the "Pressure" tool. And by using the "Stabilizer" setting (in the Quick bar at the top,) SAI will smooth the line for you as you draw.

holy smack, youre right, damn if only i realized it earlier, i must be the dumbest person on earth, thanks a lot man! , i really want to give this a try with the next deviation

you're welcome. I don't use it very often unless I have a difficult line that needs to be precise, but when I do use it, it works wonders. Good luck with it. The Node tool and all its options take some getting used to.

thanks again, ill have to get used to it a little bit, making sketch lines in SAI is hard.

Really, you think so? What tool are you using? I don't find it any different than sketching in photoshop... Actually, I find it better, cause I can sketch on a rotated canvas, at an angle comfortable for my hand.

Frost7 In reply to Oshouki [2009-05-10 05:38:07 +0000 UTC]

true, probrably because im so used to PS, normally i never rotated the canvas when drawing, i should try it thou.

Wow Osh! The lineart is splendid! There's so many qualities I love about it. One being her gracefulness and the balance of her pose. That had to be interesting to come up with, did you have someone pose for you?
I also love the fluid curves that add to the gracefulness of the picture. Such as how her scarf twirls around certain parts without actually being tangled.
Oh and then you have her deadly and seductive expression, that spells out dangerous when you realize she's holding a sword. Very beautiful Osh! I really can't wait to see the colored version if you plan on coloring it.

Damn! You never fail to make me feel awesome about my artwork! Thank you! You rock, sis!

Looking at it now, I really don't know where this image came from. I just did a sketch, scanned it and digitally inked in the span of about a day. The ones where the art carries itself into existence are usually the best ones for me. I do have to say that I've been reading a lot of action-based manga lately, as well as watched the latter half of the chinese movie "Hero" the week before -- so that probably rubbed off on me.

(By the way, how do you like the recent Naruto chapters? And the appearance of Minato.)

Bwahahaha! My evil plan is coming to fruitation! ... Fruitation? Fruitation!

Oh, haha, how do you think I feel about the recent Naruto chapters Osh?? TOO EXCITED FOR WORDS!!! And now that it's come to our notice that Kakashi Gaiden is going to be animated - yea... I'm like in hyper-excited-overload-helpmeplz-mode.

fruition? evil plan? how sinister...

Finally, Naruto actually kicks some butt.

That was an excellent arc -- glad to hear they are going to animate it.

Thanks! I have the compulsion to add bits of colour to emphasize the depth and layering that is so hard to depict in just line art. But unlike you, I'm too lazy...and will wait for one of you to colour it.
I hope it isn't a pain in the ass to colour ^^'

I'm not the one colouring your lineart, but it looks pretty clean/nice to work with xDDD
I can't wait to see the finished versions of the collaborations for this month >3<

And the added depth makes it look better! *O*

Thanks. I dunno why, but so many chinese kung-fu movies have masters fighting with just a fan as a sword.

I love it. Such grace. Even though it says in the title, I didn't notice the sword until last I was so drawn in by the movement.

Oshouki In reply to Ranefea [2009-03-23 05:43:08 +0000 UTC]

Thanks! I watched a bit of the movie Hero (2002, with Jet Li) the other night and I was struck by the juxtaposition of the theme of war/kung-fu/fighting and the grace of the flowing fabrics and hair, which was a big part in its cinematography. I guess it entered my subconscious and came out with this picture.

Oshouki In reply to anightfeather [2009-03-23 05:37:14 +0000 UTC]

Too complex?! It's probably because I failed to accentuate the shadows necessary to create the illusion of depth. I've attempted to remedy that with little success.

Thanks! I watched a bit of the movie Hero (with Jet Li) the other night and the stylized blowing and flowing of fabrics and hair in the cinematography really made an impression on me. And it helps to be oriental.

taleism In reply to Oshouki [2009-03-23 22:06:05 +0000 UTC]

Oh, I know that one! I don't really watch these kind of movie too often, but surprisingly, my mom is a huge fan of them!

Always when they punch, there's that "fwoooOiiish!" sound XD It's kind of weird.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Oshouki In reply to taleism [2009-03-23 22:40:11 +0000 UTC]

I think you have to grow up with them to truly appreciate them. They were burned into my subconscious since I was 7, starting with really badly made chinese tv serials.

Lol, that "fwooooissh" sound doesn't seem natural, does it? I think it's supposed to be the sound fabric makes moving at high speed. Either that or the sound of air compressing at high speed and force, like a mini sonic boom.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

taleism In reply to Oshouki [2009-03-24 17:41:35 +0000 UTC]

Oh, I did. These shows are like one of the few things my mom could call a "hobby", if not the only one XDD I was forced to watch them with her, because it apparently heightened "my Vietnamese knowledge". Let me tell you this - there can't be a worser country for dubbing than Vietnam, just, no.

Yeah, I know! It's so characteristic for them XDD The battles are so full of them that my head starts to hurt after only few punches.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Oshouki In reply to taleism [2009-03-25 21:58:09 +0000 UTC]

Thank goodness I never watched any of them dubbed. I'm sorry to hear you were forced to watch them.
