Description The Electric Ground Sloth pokemon.

I've wanted to do a realistic version of Electabuzz since I did my first realistic pokemon sketches , but I couldn't figure its anatomy out. The weird feline primate hybrids I came up with never felt real at all. Then I happened to look at the three-clawed hands of Elekid, and suddenly everything clicked into place.

Electabuzz is the closest living relative of Vigoroth, another ground dwelling sloth pokemon with a (reduced) tail. Both have bony horns covered with hairy skin, but while in Vigoroth these small nubs are often mistaken for ears, it is very clear in the case of Electabuzz that they are outgrowths of the skull, sometimes worn down to the bone similar to the horns of Girafarigs. Presumably the ancestor of Electabuzz was an arboreal or semi-arboreal animal, but despite its unsual proportions, Electabuzz spends most of its time on the ground. Its feet bear two large hook-like claws and its heel features a projection covered in cornified skin, often mistaken for a third claw.

The exact reason for the starkly contrasting coloration of Electabuzz isn't known. Since it is omnivorous with carnivorous tendencies, it was often thought to be useful as camouflage, but the current thinking is that it's actually a warning signal to larger predators. Due to its ability to generate and discharge potentially lethal blasts of electricity from its body, Electabuzz is every bit as unadvisable to mess with as a Beedrill or a Stunky.

I enjoy a lot both idea and an artwork of such Electabuzz!

Many people interpret them as apes, so your take stands out. Especially concept for three claws on the hand
It's interesting this sloth must have some kung-fu skills and reflexes for such base speed stat....

Thank you!

I intentionally mentioned Vigoroth as its closest relative because of the speed thing. It's obviously also a sloth too, but a very fast moving one, so there is precedent. I imagine ground sloths must have been faster moving than tree sloths anyway.

I agree with you; additionally, we talk here about Pokemon, which definitely differ from animals, so quick reflexes and aggressive nature on sloth Pokemon are still real possibility

Yeah, it's not like we have real sloths with electricity powers. Or rodents.

You know, I always pictured Electabuzz and its ilk as monkeys, perhaps "relatives" of the Aipom/Ambipom line due to Electivire's double tail.

Yeah, like I said, I tried the monkey version but I never felt like it worked.

At a quick glance, the left (my left) arm and leg look a bit weird. I think it's because the hand and the foot are posed at the exactly same angle and are the same size, too.
But if you look closer, you see everything's fine.

Honestly, I had to repose the limbs (legs especially) so many times that I'm not surprised if something's still wonky.
