Description I bought a vintage Czechoslovakian Flexaret VI Meopta camera (1961-1967) from Gejza Dunay
(a man from Slovakia) a few weeks ago. This is one of the tests that I shot in order to see if the camera works properly. I decided to post it here as a deviantID...

I'm not sure whether it was exactly this model, but probably with this I made my first pictures ... it was my father's camera ... nice to see it again

This one takes 120 type film. I think the one you are talking about takers 620....this might be helpful ----> [link] or this ---> [link]
Never tried it myself even though I do have a few cameras that take 620...

thank you very much. I really enjoy the tone of the photograph, and the fact that your face isn't hidden behind a self portrait that showcases the subject and the tool. Very nice work.

I think about painting too.. more so nowadays... everyday. But its weird, cause i am not a painter. Hmm.... well i like this self portrait too.. its uncomfortable to look at. But everything fits together. I like the setting, homey and artistic... is this what the models look at when they are posing for you?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

ostanine In reply to alfrancis [2005-06-15 23:22:29 +0000 UTC]

If you start painting you will be a painter and I think that it will help you with your photography as well. I am sure that if I hadn't been painting in the past I wouldn't be able to see things the way I do.
When the models pose for me...I think that they see me but usualy not my whole face because it's behind the camera...and the background behind me changes depending on where I have them posing
Thank you

alfrancis In reply to ostanine [2005-06-16 05:32:25 +0000 UTC]

Now you got me thinking... whether i look into the lens and notice the expression of the photographer or even the background. As the one behind the camera... I think i dont really notice little details just the big picture and maybe the main subject or emotion i want to capture. The same off camera, I am just not observant with details. And now that i am into my 3rd day on a painting, I curse myself for thinking that the original painting that i am currently copying was a simple one ... you are right, there are things you notice only when you are forced to.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

ostanine In reply to alfrancis [2005-06-17 01:18:32 +0000 UTC]

observant with details....I know exactly what you mean...I have thrown away quite a few photographs because I was so sucked in by the main subject...and some of them were not even considered to be details...I mean a big window or a table is not a detail...The more I work though, the more I am able to see those little unwanted or wanted details...we just have to practice
You can copy paintings?!?! I couldn't copy anything when I was painting...not even the simplest things...

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

alfrancis In reply to ostanine [2005-06-17 02:26:03 +0000 UTC]

I think now that its the only way to learn or be more observant when you have something to base on. Like how shadows are done or textures... or trying to achieve a myriad of color with just 6 color options and no black! I will show it on DA maybe just to get feedback. Mind you its my first try on canvas.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

ostanine In reply to alfrancis [2005-06-21 23:38:49 +0000 UTC]

I understand what you mean. The thing I know from my own experience is that the more I work the better I am able to observe other peoples' work and understand how they do things...
You are working without black paint?!?...I could never do that...I hope that you will like working on canvas

I see you like this, posed staunchly across the room from your models. It's a great self-depiction...

Would you please speak to me the words at the bottom of the picture? My eyes cannot quite make them out, even when I enlarge the portrait.

P.S. Does Shirley Valentine ring any particular bell in your mind 9? You remind me of a particular character in the film, the one that has such talent with the ladies, but instead of utilizing a boat, you make melody with your cameras! What a gift!!! The way your work must boost these lucky femmes to new heights!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

ostanine In reply to CrackedCupcake [2005-05-07 19:37:11 +0000 UTC]

...I had to look up the word "staunchly" in the dictionary...
It is nice to know that you see me that way...even though it makes it more difficult for me to submit another ID...I might not look as serious...he he

The words at the bottom:
Testing a Flexaret VI Meopta in a mirror

PS - I have heard about Shirley Valentine but haven't watched it....but now I am curious...
The character sounds like a playboy...is he? Even though I do love women I don't think I have such talents with the ladies.
Regarding the "lucky femmes" believe me when I say that most of them (thankfully not all...) hate themselves when they see the results of my work. I don't make them look pretty as they have imagined themselves...but I am not interested in doing that either. I want them to look the way I see them...or the way I imagine they really are...

Thank you again dear

.

Forgive me if this is a double post. I rambled, hit enter and nothing seemed to stick, so I will play copycat and try to repost what I just typed. *Glares at the DA server and then smiles innocently*

In the movie Shirley Valentine, the main male character is a playboy of sorts. He takes them on a ride in his boat and makes them feel beautiful again. Probably a girlie flick, but some very pretty scenery of Greece and England in it.

So sad some of your models are not happy with the results of your photography of them. I think they are all so beautiful. Your use of atmosphere and perspective draws their inner beauty out as well, and that is so commendable.

Got a great tickle also, picturing you grabbing your dictionary to look up a word! Compares to men that stop to ask for driving directions when they are lost (not so proud that they drive aimlessly around, very wise to seek answers).

Waiting for that "not so staunch" self portrait...*taps fingernails and grins*

Nope...No double post

I have to find that film very soon. It sounds good! and I tend to like girlie flicks....do you think there might be something wrong with me?

He he...Here we go with the dictionary again....."commendable".......here we are...com-mend: 1. To represent as worthy, qualified, or desirable; recommend. 2. To express approval of; praise.....why thank you very much for that comment!

Regarding that "not so staunch" self portrait I don't have one ready yet. I'll have to shoot it first and that might take a little while....you just managed to make me camera shy ...ha ha ha...

CrackedCupcake In reply to ostanine [2005-05-08 15:12:20 +0000 UTC]

You are just full of surprises...and no, there is nothing wrong with you, quite the contrary. I think you need to grab the flick, pop some popcorn and sit down on that lovely sofa to watch the drama unfold then!

Shall I give you a list of not so staunch poses you can try to capture of yourself? *Grins evily* Put the camera on a tripod and set the timer...snap away. That's how my own portraits ever get done. If you're good, I might consider sending you a few...
