Description Atomix (originally released over at cdartdisplay.com in september 2007) has been my first ever attempt to use textline-masking overlay graphics in order to support the impression that the text is actually scrolling underneath a glassy surface and besides is smoothly fading in and out to both ends of the textline-hosting thingies.

in mid 2007 *Carlospr (the inventor and father of CAD) has developed some nice and cool new features for CAD which soon became standard for many skins eversince.

Atomix for that matter has been one of the first skins ever to eventually support those features such as:
- a completely rebuild volumeslider- and progressbar functionality
- glowing mouseover effects for trackratings and toolbar buttons
- a socalled "special effect" which in this skin is causing the time counter to blink when the player is paused.
- extra smooth textscrolling
- and of course the mask graphics i mentioned earlier.
during the process of creating Atomix i ended up adding more and more variations of this skin to the final package.
while you can see 4 of these variations in the preview image above already, there's actually a total amount of 12 (!) different substyles for you to play with.

PLEASE NOTE:...this is a CD ART DISPLAY 2.0 (CAD2.0) skin.
it is required to have the most recent CAD2beta5 build (or above) installed.
you can get the freshest build in the "All Users" section here.

once the newest CAD2beta5 is installed you can easily apply (install) the skin in its *.cskin file format by simply doubleclicking on it or by dragging n'dropping the file onto a running CD ART DISPLAY.

well, i hope you'll enjoy this piece of ancient CAD history.

You are very welcome, Otis. Maybe you would consider using Blackbox in the near future?

well, to be honest.. my win7 partition more and more becomes an orphaned one. you see, i've migrated to mac a year ago and it has soon become my main machine to get my work done. however, i still have this very strong affection with CD Art Display and will probably never turn my back on it, hence will always have a windows running in a virtual machine. besides, being a GM (or CV as in Community Volunteer as we're called now) for the Skins&Themes also requires me to be able to install, use and test a lot of the deviations i consider for a DD feature, so that i don't have to evaluate everything just by viewing it, you know. customizing wise i think that windows has far more capabilities and softwares than macintosh, so being a desktop customizer by heart, i just can't imagine a life without windows right now. but as i said, posessing an iMac made me use the mac osx on a daily basis and so i'm not that curious about things like blackbox or other things i never tried before, than i was 12 months ago.

hope that makes sense.

Lol... Yes, it does make sense and it's sad to hear you are migrating to Mac at a time most Mac users are migrating to Windows... lol. Or Linux, for that matter, it's the best OS imho, VERY stable and pretty cheap Well, if you ever wish to try Blackbox, please let me know. Or, if you want to, you can always join

You are? Stupid me, should have consulted the members least before selling you goods you already own...

well, as a CV i'd like to stay informed about what's going on in the community and being a watcher/member of almost any group that's in any way related to the subject of desktop customization (re. skinning) really helps in that matter. this way i get most of the recent news (through blogs) and deviations in my inbox, although i have to admit that being a watcher/member of almost 130 groups can be quite stressful at times and it isn't always easy to keep track with everything.

I am impressed, Otis. But I found out you are only a watcher, not a member. So, if you want to join it would be an honor

OtisBee In reply to pitkon [2011-08-25 14:47:58 +0000 UTC]

hmm.. for me it doesn't really make any difference whether i'm a watcher or a member. i get all the blogs, polls and deviations either way.

i like effect and the basic idea, but i wouldn't choose this display, because i tend to be confused by too many identical looking controls - even if they're arranged logically like yours.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

OtisBee In reply to greyfin [2009-03-22 20:01:43 +0000 UTC]

wow, ...i'm both surprised and pleased that you took the time to comment my "stuff".
especially when i consider that this isn't really your range of application.
so what i actually get from you here is an insight of someone who's making her first approach towards my work or even the subject of skinning.
can't value this enough.

frankly speaking i have to agree with you in terms of the usability of this skin.
the funny thing is that i haven't used this skin for almost a year and my thoughts about it were rather ambivalent when i eventually tried it again the other day.
on one hand i'm still satisfied with the graphical outcome and on the other hand there's something that always keeps me from using the skin on a regular basis.
i guess you've described my dilema pretty well.

either way, ...the purpose of this skin was to show how to accomplish a scrolling text in a limited area which would appear to be under a glassy surface and which would fade in/out on both ends.

thanks so much for your precious feedback.

Ist eh vergebene MΓΌhe.

seis drum.

Excellent!

It has very cool looking design/style/depth and it strongly remind me good (read the best) old skins for the legendary media player as it was the Winamp in early 2000'

How could I not fav it!

As for the preview... I really like that sleek bar at the bottom

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

OtisBee In reply to Vathanx [2009-03-17 22:37:53 +0000 UTC]

yeah, the good old days.

btw., although slightly modified for the re-release this preview image has been the first one where i haven't just created a simple screenshot of the according skin on my currently used wallpaper and then post it (like i did for all my previous skins prior to sep.07), but was actually a start to put just as much attention, time and effort to it like i did for the skin itself.
at my idea it really payed off eversince and i'm really happy each time someone is also commenting on the preview image and not "just" on the skin alone.

so, thank you very much Ryan, for your appreciation of my skin and preview image
....and of course thank you for your fav!
