Description One of the things I like about aging is that certain everyday events take on an almost ritualistic significance.i.e. i start each day building the immaculate cup of coffee,a ritual of beginning and energizing. And so to I sometimes like to end the workday with the special Bloody Mary, a vestige of my New England upbringing.I thought since I already have a specifically designed spoon for my morning coffee,I would also make a special long handled one for my mixing of the occasional wind down evening drink.

I like your words to serdanoy in your comment below: 'Investing certain personal objects with hand wrought beauty puts quotation marks around their use and elevates their existence.'- what a wonderful way to grow up and learn that moments and daily events are to be elevated with beauty so nice

My old man was very careful to instruct me not only on the many techniques of making sculpture ,but also on the reasons ,the motivation, the research and the proper mindset to infuse the work with spiritual energy.Whatever real or imagined failings he had as a father,he was the best art teacher I ever had...

I believe it! The carving is so nice... you're right; 4 hours is a long time to make a spoon ;D

Thank you.Just to be accurate, there is no carving there. It's all a forged twist pattern. No hammering either.

Been watching you for a while, after `KubusRubus told me about your awesomeness. I shall endeavour to comment more frequently.

Thank you Faith,
Investing certain personal objects with hand wrought beauty puts quotation marks around their use and elevates their existence.I grew up in a house where nearly EVERYTHING was handmade by my mother and father (except electronic devices and appliances). That kind of environment can affect consciousness in subtle yet pervasive ways...

You are most welcome!

I must agree, although my household was much different from yours - which has also made me appreciate artisan work, and train myself towards it, as well. But it sounds like your house must have been an incredible sight!

I myself have just finished this piece: [link] One of the few "usable" things I've made so far, if I don't count jewellery. There is a certain satisfaction, I must say.

Ass-Kickingly Kick Ass, dude!
My wife likes [actually LOVES] the odd Bloody Mary [Gin and Tonic man, myself], as well, though only the ones I make. She tried one in a bar, once and was more than just a little disappointed. Four hours seems just about the appropriate amount of time to spend on a labor of love like this.
We should all be so lucky, as to have one.

Two

Thanks Rich,
There are a couple of secret ingredients to the Immaculate Bloody Mary. This comes directly from a lineage long enjoyed on the coast of Maine.
Use Clamato juice instead of a pre-made mixer
half a lemon
half a lime
teaspoon of horseradish sauce
teaspoon of stoneground mustard
generous dash of Worcester sauce
dash of celery salt
dash of Tabasco sauce
The addition of the mustard at the end causes all the ingredients to blend nicely.
Try this on the wife...I promise positive results.LOL

We use the Spicy V-8, but otherwise [excepting the horseradish and mustard], pretty much the same. I will definitely give this a try, though.

Spicy V8 is indeed a worthy substitute.
The horseradish and stoneground mustard are the two secret ingredients.
