Description This will be a new feature in a Lily Gate I am making for clients in New York.
The gate is similar to [link]
except it's one panel and the stalks are spaced much closer together.
It is fabricated in 316 stainless steel and silicon bronze.
I will post the whole gate soon when it is finished...

Photos by Karl Blossfeldt were a great reference.

Oh, I LOVE Karl Blossfeldt's photographs. So many have done the plant "portraits" since, but in my opinion, never surpassed, and seldom equaled his work.

Very elegant.
What on earth is silicon bronze??

It's 98% copper but with a smidgen of silicon in there it allows it to be MIG welded with stainless steel or silicon bronze wire.It also holds a patina marvelously well.

One of the reasons welding silicon bronze is such an advantage in the decorative arts is there is no discoloration of the weldment(seams). Since you weld with the same constituent material as the base metal there will be no tarnish boundary like in (brazing).

Oh, I see. Yes, that certainly is an advantage.
Silicon is a remarkable element. I didn't know it "mixed" with metals... but I guess it makes sense given that it was originally classified as a metal; probably as intermediate characteristics.

Not sure if this is the same silicon used in circuit boards etc.

A different form of it perhaps, but silicon is an element in the periodic table, so yes, it would have the be the same one and only Also the same atom used in making silicone, used for many things from grouting bathroom tiles to medical tubing. Quite versatile, is it not?

Absolutely,I have a reoccurring vision of the first BIOCHIP,the interface between biology and electronics, and it involves silicon greatly...
