The rocks, clouds, water, and background trees look really great! Even the grass in the foreground looks good too. I agree with ~orinoor about the waterline and the tree in the foreground, it looks like it several different kinds of leaves on it. It is too bad they don't have better ones to offer, because it is the one thing that keeps this render from looking like a real photo.

dang it, i have always wanted to try and make my own but i know i wouldn't be able to do it in max and i'm pretty sure you can do it in vue but i have no idea how. so far i've just been using defaults.

I know some of the techniques they use for leaves, when modeling trees in Maya or some other programs, and they usually look good in the distance, but not close up.
One day, I'll actually open up the practice version of Vue, and get into it. I'm sure my stuff will look awful compared to yours. I have done environment models in a program called MojoWorld, but It's so difficult and the vegetation really sucks.
Have you looked online, in forums, to see if anybody else has come up with a solution to make a good looking tree?

Wow, it seems like there would be info out there somewhere. That program is so hot, I mean so many people are using it now.
Yeah, it is very expensive. I wish I had money for all the programs I want.
I downloaded sometime ago, and I'm not sure which one it is. I'll look into it. Thanks for the info.

hi, i reallyl like this rendering. The trees and the water are looking very real. The only thing that bugs me is the connection between the water and the rocks. You can see alot of waves on the water surface but on the corner of the rocks there are't any. I would also darken this areas with an ambient occlusion because the rocks should drop a shadow onto the waters surface.

i wish i could darken it with ambient occlusion but i have no idea how haha. i used global radiosity for the light which is the most realistic highest quality light. so according to VUE that's how it should be. As for now my photoshop post work skills and lighting skill are still not as good as i would want them and i have A LOT of room for improvement. I'll keep what you said in mind for the next piece i do and see if i can make it better!
thank you so much for the comments and suggestion!

I like this one as well! The water still looks amazing and the terrain is always beautiful in your renders. The lighting as well, is great. I like this piece!

Totally better! I'm rendering a HUGE scene! I MEAN HUGE!!!! 10 almost 40 hours put into it. But it's heavy with light, so...

... the only words of encouragement I can offer is.... make dang sure it looks good in the preview render before you do a final render.

yeah rumor has it you need to get it to look like you would want the final render to be in preview. that way final will be even better than expected

Nicely done, your terrain work looks very natural and the water is just right. I would suggest adding a darker material to your terrain at the waterline and you might try using a better quality tree for your foreground (the tree you have now has that curled plane look). Excellent image, really!
