I have to ask because this story act have been going on for so long.

ah the three act play... that kind of reminds me of Gravity Falls, that also fell into the category of a three act play.
This grandfather seems like an interesting character. however, part of me thinks that this cannot make sense, that the main villain would have to have been introduced earlier, that it may be one of the rarer five act plays, but no it can't go on for that long, we need a climax soon.

1) one the alternative to a climax is an anti-climax, and trust me these sucks.
2) He is only hinted at in the comic too, (I read it). There is another mysterious character in that one, that I think is a shinigami, but yea, we need to finally get to meet that mean old Oni (and I mean that quite literally)
3) Gravity Falls is a very obvious example of a three act play.
The original plan of the show were to have three seasons, with each season being one act. However, they were only granted two, so act 2 and 3 had to be compressed into season 2.
Act two ends with the arrival of Ford in "Not what he seems".

They wanted to have more. Many people look at me weird when I say that Gravity Falls were supposed to have three seasons, because what can come after Weirdmageddon, but that is because season 2 should have ended with Not What He Seems.
Just as Giddeon was the antagonist of season 1, Grunkle Stan should be made up to be the antagonist of season 2, as we should start to doubt who he really is, and what his real agenda were.
Everything in season 2 had to be compressed and non essential dropped.
I would really have liked to get to know Ford more, who we only got a few episodes with. But I would still consider this to be one of the best animated series ever made, because it is so rare to find a coherent plot, and the three act play really is one of the best ways to structure a story.
The big problem for most tv shows, animated or not, is that they aren't finite, that is they are far and wide not from the beginning made to tell one big story, because they are approved for one season, and if they are sufficiently popular they get another.
There are three problems with that model.
First what I already said, that it runs contrary to how stories are best constructed.
Second shows can be channelled before their story have been told, thus leaving us at a cliffhanger, and third shows might just go on forever beyond all rhyme and reason.
For instance there is that one animated sitcom that have run for more than three decades, that actually happened to be really good and innovating at its inception but for all intents and purposes have been a zombie for literal decades now.
That is why films are often better, they are made as one coherent whole and released as one, despite many being better suited to being chopped into pieces.
Hunger Games were actually a good book, that I read a few years ago, but the film skipped so many details, turning a great story into "barely watchable" however the worst case was properly "The Da Vinci Cody". They would have needed at least 10 hours of film to capture the magic of the book, something which could have been possible in a 12 part series, if the culture had allowed it.
