one of the four entry exams was the aforementioned colour composition assignment, first drawn as pure geometry following some composition rules and/or restraints (fixed angles, circles allowed or not etc.) and then coloured as precisely as possible with tempera paints, sometimes with restrictions of colours - for example just with red and blue (and black and white) and all the mixed colours and shades in between. the idea was to train us in composition with shapes, colours, accents etc. and to teach us something about hue, value and so on. and yes, it was pure fun.
