Description
After the unmitigated disaster that was the Type 45, Mitsubishi, one of the only large companies to not be involved in the development, decided to approach the government with their own idea for a weapon. This idea would be developed into the Type 46 General Combat Rifle.

The Mitsubishi Type 46 was a significant improvement over the Type 45, being far more suited for the various environments it was to be deployed in and was significantly less prone to jams, requiring very little maintenance. Because of its semi-automatic design it also lacked the recoil issue that the Type 45 had. Though the recoil was still massive, Despite being a significant improvement over the abysmal Type 45 it still had numerous flaws, sharing most of them with the Type 45 but also having several of its own issues. The most obvious of which was the fact that it was big and heavy, weighing in at 4.5 kilograms unloaded (10 pounds) making it an absolute pain for soldiers to march with. To further complicate matters the recoil was atrocious, with several soldiers being injured during trials due to the poor balancing of the gun, even worse was the sheer size of it, measuring in at a whopping 115 centimeters (45 inches), rendering it useless in close quaters

Despite these problems over over a one million of the Rifles was purchased by the Government, as the Arisaka rifles had not aged well.
