They give the best natural rush around I reackon!
Even the air becomes positively ionized after a lightning bolt charges through!
The air get's that ozone smell to it and you really feel alive!
Weeeeeee!

Sozzo!
I love storms!

awesomeness! it's so purple and electricy.
I've always wondered how nature photographers capture lightning bolts... how did you do it, oz?

ozplasmic In reply to Jiggsokeken [2008-11-15 04:52:59 +0000 UTC]

Thanks heaps Jiggs! ::

First thing, is not to be afraid!
Get in close and set your camera up just right, before you go into positive ion territory.

"Just right" means.........

A long exposure on a tripod.
Around 15 seconds I use.
With a very small aperature... My cam only goes to f8.
And a slow film speed.

Point the camera at the storm center at close range,
Press the shutter button and hope for the best for the next 15 seconds!!!
and keep pressing the shutter button with your pre-determined settings every time the sequence restarts..

If you get a big lightning flash , then cover the lens as quick as your reflexs will allow you.
A hat is a good thing to use.
That will stop overexposure from the after effects of the flash.

Well! That's what I do.
Hope that helps some?
Thanks mate and happy storm hunting!

wow, thanks for the tip oz!
it's been raining here a lot and there were bits of lightning bolts here and there. most of the lightning land on the mountains though and they're too far away for me, but sometimes they're huge. I want to try this out! lol.

thanks again, oz.

Oh Boy!
That was one scary storm ,
I was in one of those picnic shelters at the time
and the bolts where landing on the other side of the trees, thankfully.
I felt a bit edgy at about this time, and ran for cover not long after this shot.
