Description same location as _a new morning.changing weather . 14th january 005.

hand model is *natashalyonne .
I suggested lying down in the grass and reaching out with the hands for sth.
for the sun thing maybe.

and she performed this great pose.

I somehow feel the urgent need to let winter look like summer these days...

thanks to all my friends and viewers.

Stil.

Das würde ich mir glatt aufhängen.

This feels delicate and honest, dear Stephan
With her bare legs *natashalyonne protrays innocence and fragility, her skin is bare to the elements. Her outstretched hands remind me of the feeling you get when you place your hand out a fast-moving cars window. I can feel the breeze..
With the model primarily on the left, and the buds on the right I feel balanced looking at this photo. Of course the buds to not distract, being out of focus, they just add interest and work as a frame.
The texture of the grass makes me wish I could reach out and touch it..the messiness of the grass {the differing lengths and directions} makes me think of the sky - pulling the top and bottom together with two elements. Either sky or perhaps hair
I love your work, it's so very pleasing..

that's an oh so sweet comment my dear. this was primarily supposed to be a fun shot... natashalyonne suffered from astonishment when obeying my instructions since she couldn't imagine what was going on... at home I found out that the photograph exactly turned out how I wanted it to be.
glad, you can relate to this piece. it's already one of my favourites I've ever done.

Brilliant image
It has an almost surreal quality to it, with the striking oddness of her hands appearing from nowhere and we wonder what exactly she's reaching for.
The black and white suits the image perfectly, breaking down the image into something so much more simpler so that we can full appreciate everything about it, from the original composition and concept to the wonderful DOF.
You succeeded so well in creating a summer feel to it, I was completely fooled and thought this was an older shot from summertime

I normally don't like deceiving others than myself,
but this time I'm very fond of the fact that I managed fooling you what is actually a good sign.

once again thanks for your oh so lovely comment. it's most important to me since they're always in-depth. that's what I like most about you besides your stunning art.

it really looks like summer. makes me want to go lay by the sea :] and that picture is soooo beautiful. it's one of the most beautiful photos i ever saw. what makes it so excellent is the composition: those flowers at the foreground, that hill with girl laying there and the bushes in the background. it's just perfect. even though it's black and white it's a picture full of happiness and you actually CAN feel the colours. i can't just let it be that way, so i'll give it a

btw hope you'll get well soon. you're sick and you have to work, pure you

From the comment i have read, no one mention Sureal.. This looks so Surreal Which i totally Love..
the aspects of Miriams Arms creeping out from the hidden hill. the fact her legs look a something part of nature, and that you really cant see the true figure.. i love that..
I like the fact we do can see she is laying down, by the way her arms are position and that really makes it look like joy and summer but wat i love is the whole composition, the fact theres so much detail and so much we can see and appriciate, i dont know if u get wat i mean.... The DOF is just amazing, and the choice of black and white tone is perfect. great photograph techinical wise and creative and imaginative wise. i think this shows great aspects of being a true amazing photographer, u have mixed nature and person and emotions in one... great work stephan..

thanks so much ana.

I think I absolutely get what you mean. I felt pretty similarly when I took this shot. it was a moment of full of detail and appreciation for the moment. miriam didn't worried at all lying down in the wet gras and straw... the lighting was just perfect this morning...

This image could fit into so many categories and be a strong entry in each one. My immediate response was to the implicit playfulness of the composition before getting so far as contemplating its technical merits. Good concept...and a nice relief from the winter doldrums.

This shot is really setting an atmosphere of its own, maybe the winter turning to summer as you said.
This is something I find very important, I love when a picture sets it.

But somehow, I have to say that two things bother me a little.
First, the sky seems saturated (in fact I don't know how to say it) with little waves in it, is it due to computer editing ?
Then I'm not keen on this 1/2 - 1/2 composition, although there is this tree on the right part that breaks it a little, but my eye can't make a choice between the sky or the foregroung grass to look at.
This is not helped by the depth which somehow here is a bit confusing (but notice that this is only true for me by the time I'm commenting.)

Despite this, I like the way the hands make a link between those two parts of the shot.
Like a human bridge between the sky and the ground, the divine and the common.
And yet, those flowers in the very foreground add something particular to the ground, maybe it is not that common in the end...

Nice use of black and white and lighting here, this is written last but is not meant to be least
You can but improve continuing this way, keep it up Stephan.

I had the same problem on the contrast settings on this shot [link]
But well, now we know it, we'll be careful next time I guess.

I've got to say 1/2 composition can be ok, I don't want my comment to be misunderstood.

I'm glad my words can make sense to you.
And well, thanks

p1ddy In reply to aalf [2005-01-21 21:02:32 +0000 UTC]

I directly will stick to your concerns. the sky bothers me as well. I normally edit my shots in terms of contrast and brightness settings. after finding the perfect choice for my contrast settings I found out that there was a strange gradient in the sky. I wasn't able to fix this problem without taking away every other senseful change. too bad about it...

I maybe wanted to emphasize the close connection between sky and ground by using this 1/2 composition. I didn't remember what I thought of when shooting this piece. for me it's easy to concentrate on the ground as there is lots of chaos due to those blades of gras and straw.

finally: thanks for your once again extensive comment.
you've got such a fine sense for the right words, for the appropriate critique... it's astounding.

Piddy, this is so sweet!! I love the whole composition: the little buds in the foreground, the tree and tiny cloud in the background, the hill - and Miriam in a really beautiful pose!! Perfect tonal range and contrast, amazing dof again (what an incredible little camera you have there Oh wait, did you blur it in PS?). You DO turn winter into summer with this one, Stephan!

I have to admit that I blurried the tree on the right. but besides that's the only critical editing I've done except making the shot b/w. thanks a lot lovely fraeulein.
