Description Philippine Navy had Planned to Aquire Submarines to Strengthen it's Maritime Security and patrolling it's territorial waters as Chinese Warships Sometimes Harassing Filipino Fishermen and an Vital Asset for the Navy just In case of potential Chinese Invasion that requires to Strike Enemy Ships and Also in Anti Submarine Warfare.

In 2007, Philippine Navy Signed an Contract for 3 Kilo Class (Known as Project 636.3 Varshavyanka), an Improved version of Project 887 "Paltus" Diesel Electric Submarine (Kilo class) and Built by Amur Shipbuilding Plant In Russia and also Philippine Navy sent Future Submarine Crews to Russia for Training how to Maintain and Operate the Kilo Class Submarine.

These Submarines where The Quietest among the Russian Submarines and some Crews Nicknamed the Submarine "Black Hole" due it's harder to detect when submerged.

This Submarine is where the First submarines of the Philippine Navy and also The Only Submarines in the Philippine Navy where Equipped with Self Defense SAM Missiles Which is The 9K34 Strela-3 (NATO: SA-N-8 Gimlet) and Also it Can Launch 4 "Kalibr" (Klub-S) Anti Ship and Land Attack Cruise Missiles.

The Philippine Navy named The Kilo Class Submarines as BRP Maya-Maya, The Lead Ship then Followed by BRP Pating and BRP Tulingan, All 3 where named after Philippine Fishes.

All 3 Maya-Maya Class Submarines where Delivered between 2008 to Late 2015. And Commissioned in 2016, then in 2018, it was upgraded with IFF System in order to Identify for US and it's allies that make sure that Kilo Class Submarine is in Service with Philippine Navy to Prevent Friendly Fire Incidents.
