CDEM= Council Demilitarization Enforcment Mission

----

1
- Witam, nazywam Lassea Lortis i oglądacie państwo Sieć Informacyjną Cytadeli.

2
I wtedy my wkraczamy.

3
- Podczas potyczki, siły Misji Cytadeli Egzekwujące Demilitaryzacje straciły jedną fregatę, natomiast dwie pozostałe zostały lekko uszkodzone, ale krążownik wciąż niesprecyzowanego Krogańskiego Wataszki został całkowicie zniszczony. Dla państwa przyjemności mamy holo-nagranie z potyczki wzięte z rejestratorów fregat.

4
- NUDY!

Mam nadzieję, że to się gdzieś jeszcze pojawi

What a handsome Turian! Those eyes and that plating color go very well together!

And really, this is a lovely page here. The idea behind CDEM really shows how Krogan are oppressed in the Mass Effect universe (partially with good reason due to the fear of them attempting galactic conquest again) and the battle being shown to regular civilians through public broadcasts really emphasizes that aswell. Excellent as always, Padzi!

W drugim dymku spikerki jedno 'engamenent' zastąpiłabym jakimś synonimem (skirmish by nieźle pasowało- "During the skirmish") a "for your enjoyment" trza zmienić, nikt by tak nie powiedział w wiadomościach, jest w tym taka... sadystyczna nieczułość, która raczej w wiadomościach nie wypada. Hm... Może po prostu to wywalić i zwyczajnie napisać: "We will now show..." będzie najbezpieczniej.

Both Turians and Krogans died there, I doubt anyone will think of it as "enjoying". You might want to rephrase that.

Turian hierarchy looks like a Roman empire, and Asari republics like ancient Greek state-cities society.

So i see no problem there

"Turian society is highly regimented and very organized, and the species is known for its strict discipline and work ethic." - This puts turians way above displays of violence and calling it "entertainment". No culture comes to mind which will call "war casualties" an enjoyable material to watch.
And Greek stuff you mention has nothing to do with the matter at hand.
Oh, and important to mention, that Asari is a news reporter, how the hell can a news reporter call death and conflict an "enjoyable watch"?
If it was during war-time, I could somehow understand, but the Krogan Rebelion was centuries ago, and they now share their air and space with them.
Ether author will change that statement, or that Asari will get suspended for a month, or will have to issue an official apology for her statement.
Because no way in hell her statement befits a news reporter, or anyone in times piece, and sometimes not even war.
"Today, US forces had to intervene in a small local conflict between the local military and a terrorist group. After a short fight, it was concluded that terrorist were completely wiped out, with US forcer and the local military losing about 15 soldiers, some of them burned to a crisp trapped in a burning vehicle. Here's a footage for everyone's enjoyment ". Sounds wrong, doesn't it?

Eclipse-Strider In reply to xangreigor [2012-11-24 16:24:48 +0000 UTC]

Its the same thing as when you flip it on over to the history chanel and watch footage of ships from WW2 blowing each other up. Plus the turians are heavily based on the Romans/Roman Legion. As for the Asari, I dont know. Besides I think it was ment as a joke by Padzi.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

xangreigor In reply to Eclipse-Strider [2012-11-24 16:39:06 +0000 UTC]

Do you watch those ships and hundreds of men dying for fun or for it's historical value? Do you say "lets go watch some fun videos of people dying for real." You watch those videos and you're amaized, you're not watching it for enjoyment. It's not a paintball match, it's not Wipeout, it's a bloody armed conflict.
And if it was a joke (and I doubt that), it was a lousy one. That news reported is in for some talk in the office.

Then how do you explain war movies and games?
I'm not say war is a good and enjoyable thing(it's not), but things like that show we hate having and fighting wars but enjoy the entertainment made about it. So if we do things like that who knows what species like the turians would do for fun with the military, fighting, and war so ingrained in their society.
Also, I'm pretty shure very few people like the krogan in the ME 'verse, so people might like seeing them 'put down'.

xangreigor In reply to voy101 [2012-11-24 23:52:03 +0000 UTC]

War movies and games are explained quite easy.
Games are not real. It's a bunch of pixels. If it depicts real-life situations like lets say Normandy beach landing, they are certanly not called "entertaining" in their news or on the radio. It depicts war, tragedy. If it calls for cheering of people, it's wartime, of course you'll be happy to hear your enemy losing.
And movies are no different. To us, it might have an entertainment factor, but story wise, from the point of view of characters, it most certanly is NOT fun, and stating on news/radio/lalala that it's something entertaining is just wrong, it's wrong as a fact!
Videogames and movies are "simulations/reanactments" of life, we transfer our beliefs, culture, ethics, morals, history and a lot more into them. And calling videos of violence and killing "enteraining and enjoying" is something we don't do even in games. We try to make stories beliavable, more beliavable it is, more imersed into the story you get.
And that Asari's statement is so out of place, she is an official, she cannon say something like that even if she wanted to! And no matter how much someone may or may not like krogans, it is not time of war, they are not participating in a game, they are living among them. Honestly, if something like that was said on real-life TV, you bet your ass there would be reprecautions for the reported and the TV station. Muslims rioted just because of a Muhammed drawing, can you imagine what would krogans do if you called killing them "enjoyable" on public TV? There would be blood.

voy101 In reply to xangreigor [2012-11-27 01:23:41 +0000 UTC]

But the problem is, people are afraid of krogan there. They think if they get some small chance, the krogan will rise up and kill everyone for the Rebellions and the Genophage; or it'll take every power in the galaxy to take them back down. They take what they did to themselves before the salarians showed up, the Krogan Rebellions, and what they're still doing on Tuchanka to themselves and as mercs as proof. So while people may or may not 'enjoy' it like a movie or show or something and that being a poor choice of words on her part, they at least wouldn't be riots over it and watch it like we do reports on Afganistan or on Iraq when we where there(except with actual combat on the turian/krogan fight).

Tajtusek In reply to xangreigor [2012-11-25 01:01:00 +0000 UTC]

To be honest when I wrote that line for her I was viewing the societies of ME universe a little differently. All the three major players here Turians, Krogans and Asari enjoy war to some degree. Especially Turian and Krogan.

1. Standard wartime practice of Krogan Clans is to commit genocide on the population of an another clan when they win. It stopped only when Wrex took charge. Also killing one another and other species was viewed as something every Krogan should do. Like the ritual Grunt had to undergo. The Ritual involved killing as much as possible. And remeber when Grunt was talking about the images imprinted on his mind in the tank, he said he enjoyed seeing a Turian's plate being ripped off. Krogan really do enjoy war.

2. Turian are like someone said a Roman Empire equivalent. And Roman Empire (Even the Roman Republic) were insanely brutal to it's enemies. Also war was viewed as something desirable because it gave the aristocracy the way to achieve social status. Turians are even worse in this regard. In Turian society everyone is considered a combatant. There is no distinction between a soldier and a civilian, so a standard military practice involves bombing entire civilization back to the stone age - like they wanted to do with the Humans and turn rest of the Humanity into a client race. And let's not forget that the War on Taetrus was shown all across Citadel Space, and those were Turians killing Turians.

3. Even the Asari have this element to them. Diana Allers stated that the majority of her audience are Asari, and that she made her career doing a material on War on Garvug. Another example where war was shown across Citadel Space as a form of entertainment.

Also I wanted to convey that Krogans are still treated badly across the galaxy. Even in ME games most people still think that genophage was a good idea. Also I had in mind that because the reporter is an Asari and due to the long live span of her species, she probably lost a family member in that conflict. A mother, an aunt or someone like that. So the even if the Rebellions ended long time ago for the Asari it's still something that haunts them, because the generation that fought in that war is still present. It's like the Asari in ME2 that lost her daughters to the Geth on Rannoch and couldn't let it go.

So to summarize I viewed Citadel Societies as much more brutal than the present human one - different point of view on the war - and wanted to show that Krogans are still ostracized. But I admit and agree with you that I probably gone overboard with it.
Unfortunately there is nothing we (Padzi and me) can do about it, because Padzi already deleted the larger version of the file, on which we could do an edit.
