Description
The base for the AMG is the FG-42 which was designed as an automatic rifle for Paratroopers. Problem was the 7.62 rifle round was way too powerful at full auto (similar to issues with full auto in the US M14). Anyway this is a different FG-42.

Changed into a semiauto sniper rifle, the barrel is longer and stronger. It fires a .50 caliber (12.7mm) round. In the original FG-42 the magazine was mounted on the left hand side. In the original weapon the side mounted magazine caused it to be unbalanced. I'm sure it would be an even worse problem with 12.7mm heavier rounds. So its moved into a more traditional place under the weapon forward of the grip and trigger.

This alternate history weapon I think would be a limited production like the FG-42. Like other .50 caliber rifles it would be capable of long range engagements and anti vehicle work.
