Description Leaning back into his pillow, Gin sighed, thinking about what a long night it was going to be.  He kept needing to get up and use the bathroom, and every time, he would check on Collin—only Collin wasn’t there.  Normally the dark-haired technician slept next to the blonde, only tonight he’d been called away to work, and Gin was alone.

No, that wasn’t entirely true.  There was someone else with him, and had been with him constantly for the past several months, someone who was currently resting peacefully within Gin.  He laid a hand over his basketball sized belly and closed his eyes, and his thoughts turned to the future.  He laid there quietly for several long minutes, thinking about the things he and Collin would do when their little one was finally born, when he recognized that the odd sound he was hearing was that of heavy breathing.

Gin’s eyes flew open at this realization and he gasped, for standing at the foot of the bed that he and Collin shared was not the dutiful technician returned home, but a wild-haired, winged creature.  Its face nearly looked human, but in addition to the pointed ears and horns on its head, the rows of sharp teeth punctuating the menacing grin told the boy lying in the bed that it was clearly not.  “Wh…what do you want?” he stammered, not at all sure he would get an answer.  To his surprise, he did.

“What do you mean what do I want?  I’ve just come to check up on you,” the creature said in a hissing sounding voice.

“Check up on me?  Why?”  Gin did not like where this was going, but waited for an answer.

“To see how my investment is coming along, of course!”

“Your investment?”  Gin was thoroughly confused.

“Yes, my investment.”  The creature studied the frightful boy in the bed and stepped closer to him, moving around to the side where he lay.  “Your friend didn’t tell you, did he?”

“T…tell me what?”

“Figures,” the creature sighed, his tail swishing in annoyance.  “I’ll explain.  Your boyfriend made a deal with me some years ago, offering his firstborn if he could make the track team.  He made the team all right, and now that his firstborn is nearly here, I want to see how it’s doing.”

“What on Earth are you talking about?”

“No, not Earth, Hell.  I’m a demon if you couldn’t tell.  Azrael’s the name.  Perhaps you’ve heard of me?”  Gin just looked up at him with wide eyes, not sure what to do.  “No?  Oh well.  Doesn’t make much of a difference.  Your boyfriend still made a deal that I intend to collect on.”

“What are you going to do?” Gin asked, finding his voice.

“Why, I’m going to take this little one back with me when it’s born,” he said as he bent down and slid his arm around Gin’s belly.  Gin gasped again; his skin was so cold!  Azrael stroked the tight skin that stretched over Gin’s baby with a clawed hand, causing the blonde to whimper.

“You’re going to take my baby away from me?”  The demon simply smirked from his position a mere few inches from Gin’s face.  “But we wanted a child so badly; we worked so hard to make this happen for us!”

“I guess you’ll have to work a little harder then.”

“What exactly was this deal Collin made?” he asked, hoping to find a way out of this.

“It was quite simple really.  He offered his first child to anyone that could help him make it onto the track team, like I said.  I was the one who helped him make it, and so that child inside you is mine.  But don’t worry,” Azrael said sliding even closer to Gin so that he could cradle the boy’s head in his other arm, “I’ll let you come too.  And then you can watch as I turn your baby into one of us!”

Gin went white with panic, and suddenly found it difficult to breathe.  He wanted to scream; he wanted to cry; he wanted to do something, anything to make this demon leave him and his child alone.  Azrael snickered, enjoying the tormented look on the blonde’s face.  “No… no, you can’t…!”  Gin felt something long and thin wrap around one of his legs—Azrael’s arrowhead shaped tail.

“Oh, but I can, and I will.  And don’t think there’s anything you can do to get out of it.  It is rather unfortunate that your lover didn’t tell you about that little detail, but nevertheless, when it’s born, I’ll find you and collect it,” he finished with a hiss into Gin’s ear.  As silently as he’d come, Azrael disappeared, leaving Gin trembling on the bed in an otherwise empty room.  Tears were streaming down his face but he was too scared to even blink, lest the demon come back to torment him further.

Collin came home a few hours later to find the blonde still sitting in bed and clutching his pillow to his chest as if he needed it to live.  As soon as Gin spotted him, he broke down and burst into wailing tears.  He tried to calm his lover down, but Gin simply couldn’t be consoled and couldn’t stop crying long enough to explain.  Perplexed, Collin lay next to him and held him to his chest until he himself fell asleep, still wondering why his little Gin was so upset.
