He does say that, but it isn't really true.
This sexy man you got here is Ichigo's inner hollow. He has been there ever since Urahara turned him back into a shinigami (and he almost became a hollow) Zangetsu is the name of his sword, but this guy resides within Ichigo's soul, so both he and Zangetsu are his spiritual power. He doesn't have a true name, but some of his popular nicknames are Shirosaki and Hichigo

He's the other side of Zangetsu I always thought. The power belongs to both sides.
Isn't the sword a part of Ichigo's soul? So of course this would include his hollow side. Urahara just helped bring it out. Each reaper gets a sword who represents their soul. So Ichigo gets Zangetsu. Hollow Ichigo even explains how Zangetsu turned into him.
Well what ever the case is, he's my fav character. Though I would love for the show creator to explain about him just to clear things up. Espacilly since I cosplay as Hollow Ichigo (half mask) and go around saying I'm Zangetsu which should be okay since he does say that in the show.

Hichi and Zangetsu are both part of his sword, yes. When Ichigo almost hollowfied Hichigo was "born" or whatever you want to call it. He explained while he was fighting Ichigo that Zangestu and he are both part of ichigo's spirit energy. However, Hichigo used to be a part of Zangetsu (Like when Ichigo had to prove he was worthy to hold Zangetsu and at the end Hichigo faded away into Zangetsu) But after awhile Hichigo became more powerful, and at one point Zangetsu became a part of HIM. Which is why he was saying "I am Zangetsu" When Ichigo was fighting him. At that point it was actually true, but once Ichigo beat him, Zangetsu once again became the center of his spiritual energy and Ichigo gained his hollow powers.
