Description *Kills self several times*

I've been working on this godforsaken picture for months now, staring at it in the midnight darkness till the surfaces of my eyes have the texture of forty grit sand paper, and have been so desensitized to it I can't even tell if I love it or hate it. Oh well, I'm posting it just to be done with it.

This is more work for my story, Terayon. I don't even know why I wasted my time. I've been pushing this story for a year and nobody wants to hear it. I don't get it, I've cram packed this manga full of unrealistically attractive overly emotional bishounens, I've done everything right!!!

It's called 'back story' because it's supposed grant a little flesh and background to each of the characters, but also because in their backs is embodied a little visual riddle. It's pretty obvious and I feel dumb for doing it. Dumb dumb dumb.

I hate this stupid picture. They're all so androgenous it's a shock there's only one female. This is the reason my mother is intimidated, nay, scared shitless of my art. Oh well, at least we have our Tuesday doily making to keep us together.

These five are residents of the floating city of Terayon, selected by the eccentric old doujo master Kaio for training.
In this picture are Ayu, Tetra, Patala, Amano, and Minnow.
The murder of his mother left young Ayu orphaned in Terayon, in the dubious care of Kaio, and with newly awakenned human senses. Rejected by the gods for said 'barbarian' senses, he explores the world of Lower Terayon, the human district. Wanting to die from the pain of loosing his mother, he is kept alive by his love affair with the phantasmagoric city.
Tetra is the niece of Kaio. Dark and sacrastic, she resents being selected for training only slightly less than being related to Kaio. Once an Upper Terayon snob herself, her pride begins to be swayed by Ayu's fervor for human music and poetry...
Patala is a happy-go-lucky prince from another god city, the Tida, whose title hinges on his ability to celebrate. It is, in fact, that very aptitude with women, wine and merrymaking that has concerned his parents to the point of asking Kaio to take him to Terayon for a while. Unfortunately, the Terayonic girls are much to his liking.
Amano is a god from a prestigious family who rejects the elitist ways of Upper Terayon for the sensual splendors and fresh ideology of the human district.
Minnow, well, he's the mysterious one.

Bah. Humbug.

It is! Thank you!
If you're curious about it in my gallery there is an album called 'Terayon' that has all the pictures from the series. Most of them have write ups about the world and the characters too. It's, like, retardedly in depth because every time my mind wanders off it starts tinkering with Terayon again.

GOSH. I love this so much.

I can't pinpoint why exactly, but I think it leans toward how all your characters have so much personality even without showing their faces @w@

It's like they were emanating this aura of uniqueness from character to character.

This is just overflowing with style and very nice shading. <3 Those outfits look awesome, as well. |D

Thank you so much for this comment!! You've hit every point I worried about when working on this. Since their backs are turned I tried to stress their personalities without use of their faces. I'm happy to hear it came across.

Also, the outfits are dangerously metro, but I just thought, what the hell, it's my anime! I took a lot of inspiration from Kabuki robes from when I lived in Osaka.

Thanks again, what a nice comment

Interesting style and awesome job on all their hair

Ha! You're forgiven It's the anime's fault for turning me on to effeminate, sensitive, long haired, hundred pound men!

Thanks for the nice comment.... gosh, how'd you get so far ahead of me? We started coloring at the same time.... your work orphan's my work's children.... and then makes fun of them! Ha!

Behehe! I just mean I remember when I first saw your work and I thought it was right around the time I was starting out! And you've been working on your craft, improving while I've been neglecting photoshop with a delightful variety of highly recommendable recreational drugs! Bahahaha!
So I guess the moral of this story is that I got the tattoo somewhere between Tijuana and Burning Man.

That means a lot!! You can't imagine what I went through to get his hair right! ....ok, so there weren't light sabers or T-rexs, but it was a pretty intense coloring session!!

missirina [2008-06-18 01:37:34 +0000 UTC]

Panny, look at me: *grabs your wrists and shakes you so you stare straight into my (intense yakuza) eyes* WE WANT IT. WE LOVE IT. It's goddamn brilliant and you couldn't have colored it better. Who cares that this story isn't getting as much attention as, say, all those stupid pointless SasuNaru/SasuSaku fanarts I loathe with my entire being and yearn shred to death then set the remains ablaze. It's YOUR creation, your idea, your invested time - there's no other like it. Proceed with it, see where it leads you! But do it how you like it, not how others might prefer it because, truly, it's not for the common mind - it's kinky and twisted and only something freaks like us crave (and crave madly).

Buddha once said, "An idea that is developed and put into action is more important than an idea that exists only as an idea." Couldn't agree more. I think my story is cool, so awesome, but guess what? It's all in my head! Yeah, not so cool now.

As for the rendering: it's ridiculously gorgeous, Panny. I tend to fave then save to my compie to stare at later and I'm staring at it now.

(And, uh, sorry love... note coming, I swear! ;____; )

And Confucius once said, "Squirrel that crawl up woman's leg find no nuts."

HA! But seriously, Miss, what a beautiful comment! You got all mystical there!

Aw, I'm glad you like it! I know our styles are completely different, but I sometimes feel like I'm racing with you. You're so natural, so fluent, so put out incredible work at such a daunting rate. It's a good thing, you light the fire under me, so that means a lot

Take all the time you need, love, you're a busy girl. And, after all, doesn't the old adage go, absence makes the heart grow fonder? Didn't Confucius say that? ....no? Well, he did say, "Man pee into wind, wind pee back." What a guy.

LOL!!!!! Confucius quotes so wise! *nodnodnodnodnodnod*

Oh Panny, you're so funny! Racing me?? lol! But I'm such a bum! I just, like, get a boner and draw chicks. Deep, man. Hell, if I didn't have hawt chick to draw, I'd hardly do it. *scratches head* Heh, I seriously owe it the Wives Next Door.

But thank you, I humbly accept your gracious compliment. (Saying "humbly" makes me think of this cute fat bumble bee named Humbly that drunkenly flies about then shyly lands on a flower and twiddles its little hairy arms indecisively.)
