Description My sister and her husband showed us several scenic sites throughout the area... this was one of our favorite. About 15 minutes after I took this shot my wife let out a loud scream, grabbed her tripod and took off running... I could hear the large Western Rattlesnake shaking it's tail at her from 50 feet away. I'm being a little facetious about this being a "young" Saguaro... they don't even start growing their sidearms until they are about 75 years old.
Photographed at Saguaro National Park East, near Tucson Arizona.

Nice shot, they are pretty cool cactus. I'm a little surprised your wife didn't hold her ground and get a shot of the rattle snake

Yep, Tony... I think I woulda'... not only tried to get the shot but probably rushed to the nearest emergency room to be treated for both snake-bite and stupidity!!!

Ohhh! Rattlesnakes are nothing to play with Great shot too!! I just love these magnificent cacti.... Here in Texas we get a few of them... mostly mesquite trees though

Thanks my friend... I had an aunt who lived on a ranch outside of Brady, Texas [I was Born in Dallas but didn't do well with the heat as a baby]. She was a former army nurse in WW2 and got the Gold Star for her work on the front lines where they treated patients from both sides and were often being shelled, etc. Needless to say she came back with a whole lot of "personality"... she had a pistol and made sure the rattlesnakes stayed well away from the house and livestock!!!

Wow I'll bet she really was a "pistol" herself!
