Description People were asking for photos of it, so I thought I'd bother people by showing dead stuff. For me, it's my precious, and beautiful thing, but I know that all people don't see bones as true works of art made by mother nature. Yes, it is dead, and yes, it's covered by ants (and yes, taken by camera phone with low resolution. This isn't full size picture, since I wanted to sharpen it at least a bit.) but it's still pretty.

My hidden treasure, a fox skull exposed on top of the anthill where it was buried for a bit over two weeks. At the moment the skull is already cleaned and taken home, but I don't have more photos of it yet.

Oh, and I named it Yorric. Ya know, from the skull-scene from Hamlet. No no, not the "to be or not to be" scene, that has nothing to do with the skull scene. To-be-or-not-to-be happens inside castle, while the skull scene is located at a graveyard.

EDIT: Forgot to mention, but I didn't find this myself. I got it as a birthday present from my neighbor. One of the best birthday gifties I've had. ^^

I've seen your pictures of Yorric before but didn't take the time to stop by and comment. I completely agree with you that bones are amazing, beautiful things. And the thing that is most amazing is that you can't even see the bones while the person or animal is alive! So much beauty and it wasn't even really meant to be seen.

I am amazed every time I study one of my skulls. They are so intricate and unique.

"For me, it's my precious, and beautiful thing(...)"
"(...)true works of art made by mother nature."

i couldn´t agree more with these phrases. and these are some of the reasons, why i collect and love bones.

Those are big ants! Or is the skull small? Oh well. Did you get a chance to reward the ants with sugar yet? XD

Those ants sure are pretty big. I don't know their English name, but they are pretty common in Finnish woods where they build huge nest hills. Well, the skull isn't too big either, it's about the size of my hand.
I haven't got the chance yet, but I sure will.

That's beautiful. I tried to take home a deer skull I found like that once, but the ants got all over me and bit me. Ah well, the deer had been hunted and his antlers had been rudely and unnatractively sawed off.

I was prepared for the ants when I got to take Yorric home. I had long stick to dig it up ant remove from the nest, dropped it on ground and whiped and shook it then (wearing gloves). Ants can be nasty, and pretty hard to get out. I found some even after I had taken it home and given it a bath, there was ants floating on the water.

Hehe, reminds me of that ... little rodent that I left near our anthill just two days ago. (Mikähän on peltomyyrä englanniksi?) I should go check it soon, those ants are very hasty eaters.

Lovely scull you have there. Take good care of it.

Oh, I had two of those in the anthill too, but they were probably stolen by crows or something, since they were gone the next time I went to check them. (Myyrä taisi olla englanniksi vole). I still want to have rodent bones too, but I don't have dead rodents around anymore. At least not at the moment.

Thank yous! ^^

I think it's beautiful. I'm currently bleaching a retriever's skull that died a few months ago at my farm. Bones are amazing

Alas, poor Yorrik. I knew him well.

Well... not really. But this is a very special and beautiful find.

Very pretty, It's kinda amazing how the skull can be whole, all the skulls that I find is broken somewhere.

Well, this isn't completely intact either, it's missing several teeth and part of it's cheek bone, but it's nevertheless really pretty. I got it as a birthday present from my neighbors. ^^
