I chose to do the subject Neanderthals, because I find them very fascinating.

Humans are the only "sentient" life form on the planet Earth as far as we know, but it wasn't always this way. There was a time where primitive Humans lived on the same planet with Neanderthals, which are another "sentient" species!

There is a common misconception that Humans are somehow evolved from Neanderthals, but this is not true. We are actually two entirely different species both evolved from primates! It is believed that the Neanderthals died out because of the success of the Human species.

We all love the idea of meeting other intelligent civilizations out among the stars. Films like Star Wars let us fantasize about how we might live along side other sentient lifeforms. But we did! Well back before the dawn of true civilization, but still. They wore clothes, used tools, and did many things like we did but they weren't us. Imagine if they were still alive today how different the world would be. Forget racism, we'd have a whole new batch of social issues to overcome.

Returning back to the work itself...

I had really been wanting to do a piece that was collage for a while. So here it is, its just layers of paper, some graphite work, and some slight touch up in photoshop. I'm pretty happy with it, with the exception of the hands, which are a little wonky.

I hope you guys enjoy it and share my same enthusiasm for Neanderthals.
