Gi-Gi!! my girlfriend loves giraffes! mostly because of their long eyelashes though!

..I would agree about the long eyelashes bit..makes them ever so soft looking (mind that neck though) Got clobbered by one in Kenya at the Rothschild giraffe centre and he was just being playful

a great posture, capturing the animal at its best. i like the contrast of the shot, and the way the grass, light from the midday sun, is in complete contrast to the dark shadows of the bushes' shade

thanks Chris ..I always found taking photos on the African continent quite difficult because of the strong light ..the challenge is to make it work for one

Excellent shot Pam, you could definitely see this in a nature book of some kind (as with all your other entries to the "africa series" ) i like the bright and dark effect caused by the extreme african sun. It gives you a feeling of actually being there!! amazing

thanks Michael..one of the very frustrating problems I am having at present is that all the slides I took in the Kruger park seem to have been infected with mildew or some other sort of deterioration, since I have been in England. Strangely enough, the slides I took in China only a couple of years later have remained pretty much intact. I think I used Kodak in SA and Fuji film in China, and that might be the difference. On the Kodak (?) all the shadows have turned red over time and there are a lot of slides of hyenas and wild dogs of national geographic quality that I can't scan as they have deteriorated so much...mores the pity. If anyone knows how I can fix this, I would be very appreciative

Borzoj [2006-07-07 18:54:54 +0000 UTC]

I think that there is a too big contrast in the photograph

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

parallel-pam In reply to Borzoj [2006-07-07 19:43:04 +0000 UTC]

Thanks for your comment. I would not disagree with you..however, for the record-the contrast was unavoidable. The photo was taken in the midday African sun where it is impossible to avoid strong shadows and contrasts and cameras cannot compensate for the harsh overhead sun which causes strong contrasts without losing detail in the imortant bits of the photo. It is also a scan, and so the quality is slightly reduced from the original.
