I absolutely love the contrast between the warm and cool colors in this image, and the sense of motion from the people and the vehicles. I visited Chicago this summer and took a trip downtown--this scene looks almost exactly like a crosswalk we passed...there were some shops on the side, it was a busy morning, and we even had to walk under a train railing like that.

So many people are mentioning Chicago or New York with this image , and I have never been to either( ok.. that's a lie..I was in the Chicago airport a few times).

I'm fortunate enough to have been to both Chicago and New York--both of them are great cities, full of energy, bustle, and vibrancy. If you ever get the chance, definitely visit both.

I LOVE Sempe's work... I use to read " Le petit Nicolas" when I was a kid.. we would study that in school!

Yes. The only thing is they're in english, not french, so I guess some of the joke's meanings may get lost in translation. They're pretty good books by Phaidon though.
I got to know Sempé's work through Le Petit Nicolas and liked it ever since.
I'll see about looking for your books then.
