Description Smoke began to fill the air. I awoke with a choke, a filling sensation scraped at my lungs. My forehead was sweating uncontrollably. I was a little confused for one brief second, but then I shot up. The room where I was sleeping was filled with a darkened wall, and underneath was a glow. It was impossible to see what was going on, so I fell to my stomach. With all of the training I had gone through at the academy, I was prepared for this. I crawled out from the Smokey area. I made it into the hallway were I was abruptly hit with a blaze.
I felt my eyebrows singe off, it felt like someone had just dripped hot glue onto my whole face.
I heard my mother scream from across the house. When we had moved into this house, she wanted to be upstairs, in the very last room to the left. When dad was still alive, they had a bedroom that was very similar to this one.
She continued to scream. I tried my hardest to work my way up to get her. But there was just no way. I had to get outside. My heart stopped when I only heard the hiss of the fire, and no more screaming. At that point I knew that I was truly alone. With all these thoughts that were flowing through my mind, I fell to my knees. I inhaled as much as I could. And I slowly drifted off, and the room became hotter, and faded to black.
I awoke in a hospital room, accompanied by my neighbor John.
"What were you thinking Trent? You had all of the time to get outside. If it weren't for me you and your mother would have been killed." John sounded very concerned.
"My mom is okay?!" I sprung up even faster than before.
"Trent… she was burned very badly" John shed one tear. He pursed his lips and squinted his eyes tightly, "She has lost her legs and has severe brain damage." He started to tremble, and he felt his chest ache. I pulled the plugs out of my arm, and I pulled off the clamp from my finger. I was hysterical. I ran out of the room, but I was in a great deal of pain.
"WERE IS SHE?" I cried expecting an answer, but to my dismay I was only led back to my room.
They injected me with a sleeping aid.

They had messed up the dosage, and I was out for two weeks. When I woke I was oblivious to what had happened. All of it was a blur. Slowly but surly it all came back. I felt a pain in my chest that was so unbearable, I kept thinking about how I lost both of my parents to a fire. First my father in Iraq, and now my mother. So I assumed. It was only likely to happen in this amount of time. I was beginning to wonder about the fire. What had caused it or why it had chosen me. So I did some research, and what I found was such a huge shock.
