"Mr. Honda, could you please read the next passage aloud? ....Mr. Honda?"

The English teacher was quite confused about her student's lack of response until she lifted her head up and realized the reason with a disapproving frown. "Mr. Honda, are you texting in my class?"

Immediately, heads turned and all eyes were upon Kiku sitting in the corner of the front row, closest to the window. Even though it was normal to catch classmates using their electronic devices, it was extremely rare to ever see this goody two-shoes get into trouble, much less watch someone as reserved as him turn several shades of red. Plus, his frantic haste to hide his phone in his lap and the adorable way he couldn't hold eye contact with the glaring teacher for more than two seconds were enough to predictably trigger collective giggles and snickers.

"S-Sumimasen-- I-I mean, I am sorry, I did not m-mean to..." Oh, and his stuttering. Yep, he was officially more entertaining than the angsty prince in Hamlet at the moment. "I-It was just...I was simply--"

"It doesn't matter if you did or did not mean to. The bottom line is, Mr. Honda, I have zero tolerance for this sort of behavior, although I expected a lot more from you of all people." A few "Ooooh"s and "Buuuurn"s were heard while the teacher exhaled a disappointed sigh. "Rules are rules. Please bring that blasted contraption over here and let me have a look." She stretched out a hand towards the young Japanese man expectantly. Hestitant, but not really given another choice, he got up from his seat, the feet of his chair briefly scraping the tiled floor, and approached her slowly, like a guilty puppy reluctant to accept punishment from its owner. As he handed over his phone, everyone knew what was about to happen next. The teacher would read out loud to the entire class every single text message he had received and sent. The most recent ones at least. Call it childishly cruel, but this was proving to be a massive relief from their dull activity earlier. The last poor sap who got caught...well, let's just say he didn't need a calendar to know what day of the week it was.

He apparently had his underwear to tell him that.

Needless to say, it was utterly humiliating and a chance to humiliate this next guy as well as finally learn something personal about him was too tempting not to ignore.

"Ahem," she coughed once into her fist, clearing her throat. A hush instantly fell over the room, all conversations dropped, every noise silenced. Pushing her round glasses further up the bridge of her skinny, beak-like nose, the teacher feigned an air of indifference as she swiped the screen with her thumb to unlock the phone and touched "Messages". Kiku stood by uncomfortably, fidgeting a little, but he was considerably less flustered than before.

"O-Oh my..." Her gasp made everybody hold their breath for about a minute. She seemed to stare at the screen with a mixture of slight disgust, shock, and....awe, judging by the way she madly blushed. Darting her eyes from the phone to Kiku, the rest of the class went totally berserk when she surrendered the device without a word.

"HEY, what's up with that??"

"Unfair!"

"Unbelievable!"

"So the teacher's pet gets off the hook??"

"Now, now, settle down!" she ordered, acting like a judge in a wild courtroom and her voice was the gavel. "There wasn't exactly anything I could read! However..."

Kiku froze midway down the aisle.

"I will say this..."

The complaining halted. Ah, just when he thought he escaped....

A satisfied smirk spread across her wrinkled face.

"...Your boyfriend is pretty cute, Mr. Honda."

....he was dead.
