Your art really so clean and charming, I enjoy seeing these. C: I haven't done commissions in a long while, come to think of it.

Aa thank you! I enjoy drawing them.Β

Really? I really, really like the way your manga pages look. You should consider it.Β

Aw, thank you. C: I always keep striving for improvements in my manga stuff. I did some commissions months ago, it was fun, but I'll have to have fun for them. Ha My time is so limited these days... :C Have you ever considered creating a manga/comic?Β

PastelRemarks In reply to Blue-Swallow-Comics [2017-08-13 14:50:02 +0000 UTC]

I can tell. Everything looks really clean and professional!
Yeah, once school starts up for me my time is really limited so I can understand
Yeah, you could even say it's my dream *coughs*
I always wanted to be a Kodomomuke comic creator and draw for CoroCoro, but that's so far away//

Kodomomuke comics, interesting. I know kodomo means kids, so it's another type of manga genre, young kids manga? It's the first time I heard of such a thing. Β

Yeah for me it's work, so I often come home super tired, unless I take a nap before working out some new drawings. C:Β

Really? Hold on a sec, let me show you the magazine's official page. . .

www.corocoro.tv/

I think it goes by Kodomo, too, but I just ended up calling it that because that's how I first heard it haha//

Ehh that sucks, man. Do you work some where else, then? It's gotta be hard to do both.

Oooh, interesting. C: I went through it, they got so much interesting stuff. Hah Yeah these childlike comic styles appeal to me very much.

I work as a gardener, helping out to maintain gardens, it's more physically tiring than it looks, 8 hours a day, but it's good work.Β

Haha Sorry It's kind of a weird thing to want to do, but whatever.Β
I think the styles are really great! I love looking at them//

Aa I bet that's a pretty satisfying job, too. You get to shape and tend to the plants your way. I would be really hard, though, especially for 8 hours. ..Β

Yeah, it is hard, but it helps me build strong muscles, though. And I don't complain about the handsome pay, too. C:Β

I always thought the style of these young kids manga are so attractive because they look pretty simple. Like Bono Bono, if you ever heard of that one, it's so cute and funny, they made an anime of it, you may be able to find episodes of it on Youtube. It's totally made for little kids, but even I enjoyed it very much.Β

Ooo that is a good point, though. Gardeners get a lot in return for their work.

I think so too! I really love how everything is so direct. Like, nothing is crowded and everything is cute and small. Bono Bono was really funny. I really enjoyed it haha

It definitely is. Bono Bono must have been one among many little kids manga/anime I saw or read. xD Even though I'm a grown up. Oh well, they're just very charming and they make you watch almost.

Gagones? Never heard of that one, I'll try look it up. And sure, ask away.

PastelRemarks In reply to Blue-Swallow-Comics [2017-08-15 21:16:55 +0000 UTC]

no, gags. Sorry haha I shouldn't have done it like that //

Err most of them are really stupid but I can't figure it out.

For the papers that have bleeds and the blue lines on the outside, how do you get rid of that blue line when you scan a comic in?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Blue-Swallow-Comics In reply to PastelRemarks [2017-08-16 10:34:18 +0000 UTC]

Not a stupid question at all. To be honest, Im guessing now. But what exactly do you mean by blue lines? Are those the sketches you did, or do you mean those blue/greenish help guidelines on actual manga drawing papers? Cause I got those by too but have yet to scan them and see(I got a broken scanner).

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

PastelRemarks In reply to Blue-Swallow-Comics [2017-08-16 10:45:02 +0000 UTC]

Err yeah, both kind of. I don't really like to use blue pencils, I'd rather use a light box but I guess it's kind of the same thing.

But, the guidelines are what's really confusing me because I can't seem to find something to remove them and it looks kind of bad.

Blue-Swallow-Comics In reply to PastelRemarks [2017-08-16 19:05:21 +0000 UTC]

I'm soon going to find out, since I planned to try and do the same. I can't think of a quick & easy solution, except to try and use an imagine editing program to change lighting and darkness(a photoshop type program), to get rid of the blue. x3Β

PastelRemarks In reply to Blue-Swallow-Comics [2017-08-16 21:14:43 +0000 UTC]

Hnn how are you going to find out?

I don't know how you would separate the two onto another layer, but I don't use things like photoshop//

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Blue-Swallow-Comics In reply to PastelRemarks [2017-08-17 11:01:04 +0000 UTC]

Once I have my new scanner, I'll seek to try and experiment and fine out what works best. Also plan to scan in my screentone sheets. Or I could head over to some Japanese forum site and ask them, surely they must know.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

PastelRemarks In reply to Blue-Swallow-Comics [2017-08-18 01:28:40 +0000 UTC]

Oh that's a good point.

You were toneing all those pages by hand? Where did you even get the tones at?

Yeah, they probably do but they probably only speak Japanese ;;

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Blue-Swallow-Comics In reply to PastelRemarks [2017-08-18 09:19:16 +0000 UTC]

Ahah, yes I did, but then its just a brush and even easier. Real screentones are a pain to work with. I bought the realz tone sheets at a manga shop, while the digital ones are includes in the program I use.

Oh no wories, I am able to make my way around a Japanese forum.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

PastelRemarks In reply to Blue-Swallow-Comics [2017-08-18 10:54:17 +0000 UTC]

By a brush? Goodness, the only brush I have is the Kakeami one. I couldn't imagine working with real screen tones though ;; You have a lot of manga shops around you. Where are you from?

*coughs* I remember one time I posted a question on one and they all replied in Japanese. Ehh ;;

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Blue-Swallow-Comics In reply to PastelRemarks [2017-08-18 15:42:07 +0000 UTC]

Actually, it's a brush made up of a single dot, but you can increase the size, number of dots, spacing between the dots, creating the typical screentone. Kakeami, what's that? Are those custom brushes too? You got me curious.

Oh my, talk about being overwhelmed. xD Like an army of thousands of characters coming your way.

Really? I'd like to try and make one! I didn't ever think of making one that way.
You've definitely seen it before. It looks like prefect cross hatched squares. Mine look like this :

I think they're used in girly manga all the time. I've also seen them in harsh fights in shonen.

I w a s s o c o n f u s e d

you can probably tell I don't speak or read a lick of any other languages but english. I can do some spanish and german, but it's not enough ;;

Ah! I think I've seen those. Never knew it was called that. N e w r e v e l a t i o n ! (I couldn't resist )

I'm Dutch, so I pretty much know English beside that, some Japanese, some German, and some of the local dialect where I live...which is like a language in itself. It almost sounds like German. xD Spanish is fun.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

PastelRemarks In reply to Blue-Swallow-Comics [2017-08-19 11:25:14 +0000 UTC]

Haha They're about the only one I know about so I was glad to help you some. I don't know how well it transfers, but I can maybe give you the brush script for mine?

Goodness, you know all kind of languages! I don't think I could handle learning them all!
Spanish is a lot of fun. It's a really strange language, but it's fun to speak.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Blue-Swallow-Comics In reply to PastelRemarks [2017-08-20 06:45:40 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, though I wish I could speak Spanish, I only know some words. Hah But it's fun to know some languages.

And sure! It'd be helpful, so thank you. Although a script might not be necesary, since it won't work with the program, but I think maybe just one of those crossshaped thingies might work, as a single image.

And you won't believe me what I just found, a genuine screentone resource. I thought I'd share it with you:Β screentone.deviantart.com/gall…

Yeah, I have to take it as a class this semester. Unfortunately, I have honors so all the speakers in there are native haha
But it is really fun! It feels nice when you can understand something you don't before!

Aa here you go, dear :
Β I made it transparent. Mine is set to random rotate, 80 percent min width, and size by pressure lol
Hope that helps ><

Dude! Are you serious! That's amazing! Thank you so, so much!

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Blue-Swallow-Comics In reply to PastelRemarks [2017-08-21 15:40:59 +0000 UTC]

Thank you very much! yes, transparent is good, I would be able to import it into Procreate. I'm interested to see what I can use it for, I'm sure I'll find out.

And you're welcome, hope you can use those. Unfortunately I can't use these sheets provided as a brush, but then I myself put it on the page and remove all that's not needed, like real life toning.

I recently picked up a Spanish dictionary, with all the basic phrases and words and stuff in it. I went on vacation in southern Spain back in 2014, so I had learned some stuff, funny how all I could speak on a daily basis was 'hola'. x3 Man, I miss being there.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

PastelRemarks In reply to Blue-Swallow-Comics [2017-08-21 17:40:44 +0000 UTC]

You're welcome. I have a thorn one, too, but you have to put the settings right to make it work lol
I'd like to see! Tag me when you use it!

You could try something like this: Put the whole sheet as a brush, use the wand tool to select and area, and fill it in. I don't think it matters since manga are black and white.

Haha that sounds really neat! I'd love to go, but Mexico is right underneath us so I'd rather go there instead. I heard it really pretty.
Haha hola is such a fun word to say

Blue-Swallow-Comics In reply to PastelRemarks [2017-08-24 10:36:23 +0000 UTC]

Sure, I will. Thinking about doing some screentone practice/demonstration and see the benefits. Including the one you provides. And I will try that suggestion!

I remember when I was in southern Spain, I really thought I was in Mexico country it was weird. Or the wild deserts of Nevada. Wild wild west. x3 It looks just like that.

Aa tell me how it goes! Good luck!

Really? I've heard it was like that from people who used to live there ;;
I've also been told that you can't buy food from street vendors, but I don't know if that's true or not.

Aa question? Where did you get the font for Blitz Road?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Blue-Swallow-Comics In reply to PastelRemarks [2017-08-27 06:55:06 +0000 UTC]

Ah! It's called: unmasked-bbΒ

You can look it up on google and you'll find it easily. If you ever have installed fonts, it's easy. If you haven't, then it's easy too. Lol I remember the days when you had to put fonts in that ultra deep hidden folder for it to work. Nowadays it's a simple right-click and install and reboot.

Hmm... food from street vendors... Well, I can tell that food like fruit and veggies tend to be less fresh, just in markets here. Maybe it's the same over there too in Spain and stuff.Β

// Goodness, sorry for the incredibly late response! I just moved and everything's been chaotic.

Really? I've never heard of it. I always thought it was comic sans *coughs*
I don't think I've ever tried to install a font, but I bet that was a whole ton of work just ugh

I could see the veggies since they don't really have anything to farm in the heat, but It's probably still good ;v;

Oh, oh! I think I solved the scanning in the blue pencil problem!Β

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Blue-Swallow-Comics In reply to PastelRemarks [2017-09-16 05:45:15 +0000 UTC]

It's okay! Glad you made it back. Β

Oh no, ahah, not comic sans. I always hated that font, by the way. xD But yeah, once you download a font, all you have to do is right-click on the font file, and press on install, and usually you need to reboot your system in order for it to show up in whatever word processor/art program's text editor.

Ah! How did you solve the blue pencil problem?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

PastelRemarks In reply to Blue-Swallow-Comics [2017-09-17 20:55:18 +0000 UTC]

Thank you! It's good to be settled.

Really? I don't know much about lettering and I just assumed that it was the right font because it was, uh, named comic. Also, thank you! I did that and it installed perfectly!

It was pretty much just as you said, you needed a certain type of pencil to get it done. Basically, it needs to be a 'non-photo' blue. Even if the package says 'blue pencils for manga' or something like that, it probably won't work. Also, you have to be really light to the touch with it ;;

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Blue-Swallow-Comics In reply to PastelRemarks [2017-09-23 04:09:51 +0000 UTC]

Now it's my turn to respond after a long while (Thank you day job! XD).

I've seen it somewhere, I can't remember exactly, but saw in a documentary a mangaka in Japan using a particular blue-ish pencil for that. I remember trying it myself many years ago, and to be honest... it can't work with it. Lol I guess I'll just use my eraser.

In a couple of days I'll be able to order a new all in one printer, so I'll be able to scan in my work. More and more am I getting less satisfied by drawing digitally. Somehow, one derives gratification from drawing stuff on paper, do you? I do. Where I have these moments I go 'wow, that looks actually really good!' Β

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

PastelRemarks In reply to Blue-Swallow-Comics [2017-09-23 22:31:33 +0000 UTC]

No, it's totally fine! I completely understand.

I agree. I don't like them either; I use a light box to do the lineart ;v; I don't like the feeling of the pencils

Oo that sounds like fun >< I love to draw traditionally and my style is so different, but I don't have most of the materials to do anything comic-y. It's just so much pretty to me if I hold it in my hand, so I totally agree. It's not weird ><

Actually, I needed ink for my printer, but the cartridges are 60$ and a new printer is 40$ so I'll probably just get a new one too ;;

Err I actually happened upon this 'tone scraper' brush. I didn't know if you'd be interested in that //Β

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Blue-Swallow-Comics In reply to PastelRemarks [2017-09-30 14:29:51 +0000 UTC]

Woah, cartridges cost that much? Yeah, getting a new one sounds like a good thing to do. I still have ditched that new printer, haha, maybe.... Just maybe next month. I know these LED printers are starting to become popular(?), heard their cartridges are expensive as hell.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

PastelRemarks In reply to Blue-Swallow-Comics [2017-09-30 21:21:54 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, but maybe it's just for us, though. Either way, it's completely nuts. I kind of want to take apart my old printer to see what's in there, but I haven't got a new one yet ;;Β

Next month? Heh, that's just a day away! I don't think I've used an LED printer before. I've heard nice things about them, though, so that's good. I've been using an inkjet one for a bit.

Aa I think I'm going to move accounts soon//
