Description Image

Unfortunately since I bought my macro lens I haven't used it much and in some ways I think it was a waste buying it, but on the odd occasion when I do use it, it is a great lens and I don't know what I would do without it!

On a holiday to Bulgaria last year we spent an evening at Batak Lake, a popular tourist location for the Bulgarians and foreigners. The sky was clear and hazy, not the best to be shooting landscapes, so I decided to hunt down insects in the long grasses. I spotted this dragonfly and chased it for about 20 minuets before I got close enough to photograph it.

Very very nice, It's a shame the focus wasnt on the head, understandable reasons though!... Although, the way its turned out, the vein details on the wing are beautiful in themselves!

mmm I would have liked to have shot it at a larger aperture to capture more of the dragonfly, til next time.

That would've been good, though I should think after chasing it for a while you were glad to get any shot at all haha

Really nice but really you need to get the focus on the eye in my opinion.

It was very tricky to get a shot let alone one in focus, but I have learnt from it

Cool shot!
I bet a 105mm f2.8 is a good general purpose lens. Don't you use it for other stuff? Bet it would be great for portraits!
Anyway, love the pic!

Plus the focal length on a cropped sensor is a little odd, it never seems to have enough reach or be wide enough

Yea, I use it when doing 'roduct' photography for my work and have used it for events. But I hardly ever take it out to shoot nature

Can be very frustrating shooting dragonflies, they seem to have a sixth sense when it comes to pressing the shutter ! I found that if you stay still when they fly away they'll come right back after circling a few times. Shame the eyes arent in focus but I love the way the sunlight has caught the wings.

Yea, I was shooting AF just because I was moving around so much, I could have shot it at f/4 to get more in focus but I wanted to make sure I got a sharp shot.
