Description Made in Terragen. Terrain by Rids. Thank you!

This render took about 125 hours, as near as I can figure. I was sweating blood by the time it finished. Was it worth it? I leave that to my gentle viewers. I am satisfied with the results, well, almost. I'm not too crazy about the water. But I'm not going to do anything about it. It's finished.

well, if you want my humble opinion, i find the rays of light to be the most disturbing, mainly because there is no way it could ever possibly look like that. I think the water is nice, for once that water in Terragen doesn't look too terragen-ish (cuz that's the problem with terragen, when you do something with terragen, there's no way you can make it look like it wasn't made with terragen, that's the big problem with most 3D landscape programs)

Actually, you are quite right. You don't get rays like that in real life. This is a fantasy landscape. I usually do about 50-50. As for things looking like Terragen, yes, they do! That's actually not that unusual. Even before programs, artists had styles that were readily recognized, and they had tools that determined how their art would look to a large extent. But the more you learn Terragen, the more you can get different effects, and then it starts to look more individual, in my opinion, anyway.

Superb...
I'm happy you *didn't* try to make this one realistic. I wouldn't change a thing about it, including the water.

Thank you so much! That one took a long time to render, though not nearly as long as the one I made in TG2. This one took, I think, 31 hours. I love to make abstracts and fantasy pictures. I do about half and half. Thanks for the favs you gave me, too!

Llooks great!

...I also think the "water" looks brilliant, almost like mercury.

125 hours though, maybe you could do with a hardware upgrade (RAM/CPU?)

125 hours? I don't know if it was worth it. Considering what could have been done in afar shoter amount of time. It seems that the render time shouldn't be that long. Colors make a difference And if the field of view is wide also make a difference in render time. Sorry I have to vote no . Though it is a very striking deviation I think Other deviations suffered in the 125 hour render time. Kind of unusual for me huhn.

PatGoltz In reply to wilder3 [2005-07-25 09:31:14 +0000 UTC]

I tried cutting down on the render time, and I found additional short cuts later. I don't think colors or field of view had anything to do with it. I think having 20 high clouds did. The water took forever, even though I took out the depth. I think if I had narrowed it down to a cloud height of 3 or 5, it would have looked the same and taken much less time. I will be testing that theory.

It's fine for you to dissent.
