I tried cropping before posting but I surprisingly didn't like it. For some reason it takes a lot for me to crop.

Yeah, I understand what you mean, I'm like that myself... Mainly because my images are too low quality to stand up to the intensified scrutiny of a cropping.

I'm with you, that is a big reason for me too, at 6 megapixels I loose quality fast. That is going to be changing soon though. I'm going to take the plunge and get a D90 very soon. There are many other reasons for me wanting to upgrade, the cropping is probably one of the least important for me.

Six megapixels is more than enough to crop without seriously harming the resolution; my problem is just the noise grain from my small sensor.
Nice, I can't wait to see what you can do with it! I've been considering getting a Canon 20D just as a starter real SLR (my current camera is a point/shoot that thinks it's an SLR) so that I can get the better optics and bigger sensor*. But money is kinda stopping me. lol
*Not resolution, but literal sensor size; larger sensors tend to be less prone to noise.

It's not enough when you want to make big prints. I have some shots where I can't print bigger than 5x7. Not a lot of shots but still, from a selling standpoint that's a bit too small.
I just got the D90 today, it may a be a little while before I can get it out for some true tests though. It's worth the investment getting an entry level DSLR, put away $10-$15 a week and you'll get there in no time. It's well worth it, whenever you do it, you will be so glad you did. I was amazed at out how much better the pictures were when I switched from my powershot s3is. I don't expect any real changes with the D90 with my shots. We'll see, it has of features though that make it a lot easier to change your settings on the fly though. The fact that I'm open to a lot more lenses now is a nice bonus as well. I'm hoping I won't have to buy another body for at least 10 years though with this purchase.

Really? At 6mp you should easily be able to print at 8"x10"
Once you get beyond a certain point it's more about optical resolution and sharpness than sensor resolution.
That's pretty much what I've been doing, slowly but surely .
Yeah, I'm hoping if I can save up the green to get a good Canon Entry level like a 20D or maybe a 40D it will last me a good long time.

Like I said, only a handful of shots are 5x7. 8x10 is not an issue for most of my shots but I prefer larger than that. For a few of my wildlife shots that require a real tight crop 6mp doesn't cut it. You loose a lot quality in the image, again though I mean a TIGHT crop.
Either of those would last you a log time, no problem at all there. Line up some potential buyers for your current camera, charge the new one and use the money from your old one towards the new one, just a thought.

Yeah, I know what you mean.... One thing to keep in mind though, just because you have a 20 megapixel sensor doesn't mean you can crop without losing quality if you don't have a good lens.
I am already lining up potential buyers for my old one, but I can't and won't charge the new one. That's the start down a bad path of constant debt.

Awesome HDR, I love the milky smoothness in the exposure of the water.
How do you do HDR?
Do you use the aperture, ISO, or shutter to adjust the exposure?
On my camera the exposure bracketing automatically does shutter, so I have to do it manually via aperture, and even then it still doesn't look great

Thank you! I use photomatix pro for my HDR. I adjust the exposure for my shots. I generally do -2,0,+2, sometimes I'll take "true"HDR and do 5 exposures. My camera doesn't have auto bracketing so I'm used to doing it this way.

Thanks Alban, I experimented with cropping here but I liked it better as a whole. For some reason I don't like to crop unless it 100% necessary.
