R101 really was doomed from the start, she was falling apart from the moment she first left her hanger. She was a shining example of what happens when a government (particularly the UK government) starts meddling in technical development of any kind. See also the ill fated APT....

I disagree. Zeppelins are the railroad trains of the sky--too good an idea to let inferior, more expensive technologies triumph when so few problems need to be solved.

I never said they were a bad idea, it's the rest of what runs the world that says that. Tell me more about mermaids some time, I am so weary of thinking about things that need hangars and multi trillion dollar budgets with lots of little idiot people running around carrying tools.
