Description It's finally finished

This is a commissioned drawing and the remit was to do a repro of this section of The Last Supper in graphite with Jesus in colour.

I said this in the WIPs, this is sooo not my style and it wouldn't have looked good on my usual paper (it's far too white and smooth), so all in all it was a challenge from start to finish. It was a good challenge though and I enjoyed it

Materials this time:
A3 Hahnemuhle Nostalgie
Graphite - 4H -5B
FC Polychromos
Blue-Tac
Erasers
Frisket Film (not recommended for this paper)
Time: At a guess, 25-30 Hours
Ref: One of a million found on a google search of TLS

There are some WIPs here -

Thank you very much for having a look
Paula

I am very new in this site... you can say novice. May I know what is called Commissioned drawing?

Hi there, a commissioned drawing is when someone pays you to draw something for them

Thanks... but how the transaction is done? Isn't there a possibility of fraudulence? and Who decides the price? Is it negotiable?

It really depends on the person.  If I take a commission, I take 50% deposit and once the commissioner is happy with the proof of the drawing I take the final payment and postage and I always get  my parcel tracked for security, for my artwork, but also for the commissioner to be able to track the item.

I only take payment through paypal, that way both myself and the buyer is covered and there is some security.

I imagine there are some dishonest people out there, but there are very many more good people and I've never had a problem so far for any work I have done.

The artist ultimately decides the price of their artwork and the time they spend creating, so this is an individual thing.

Outstanding piece, love that Jesus is colourful and the Apostles are grey. Da Vinci would approve it

I love your vision on this leaving all b/w but him. Really nice to see something different and creative based of this instead of seeing people taking tv shows etc and making it into this.

Beautiful work Paula! I'm sure this wasn't easy, as you had some big shoes to fill! I think you did splendid!
Lemme guess; the frisket film ripped away some of the paper surface when you took it off?

pbird12 In reply to LilaeaBluecoat [2012-09-05 12:39:46 +0000 UTC]

You know, it wasn't very hard to do, I won't tell fibs, but it was so so time consuming

Thank you, I'm really glad you think it turned out alright

Oh, I was ooo lucky with the frisket, it just lifted a few fibres up, but any longer on there it would have been very very bad!

While this may not be your usual style, you've done an excellent job. The colour is most effective

Great job!! I did not know paper could be too white. What do you feel happens when it is so white? You can send that paper right on over here

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

pbird12 In reply to PriscillaW [2012-09-03 23:00:03 +0000 UTC]

I normally say paper is never too white, that's what I love, but for a painting that is so old, I didn't think bright white was ideal ... also, I have colour pencils on there and they are not friends with the smooth bristol, so the nostalgie was the winner .... but only this time

PriscillaW In reply to pbird12 [2012-09-03 23:02:18 +0000 UTC]

oooh ok, I see what you mean. What paper did you use here? I tried to order that mellotex and it's on backorder.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

pbird12 In reply to PriscillaW [2012-09-03 23:06:00 +0000 UTC]

On this one I used Hahnemuhle Nostalgie ... I'm not especially fond of it if I'm honest.

Aw, shame about the mellotex, it's great, but your extra smooth bristol is almost as good and a lot less expensive

PriscillaW In reply to pbird12 [2012-09-03 23:10:25 +0000 UTC]

really? That's good as long as I don't use the canson. I can't imagine what a nightmare it would be with color pencils.

I quite like strathmore for colour pencils, the vellum more than the bristol though Christina looks lovely, so it's worked great for you!
