Description After a long mission of fighting Space Pirates, blowing up planets, and exterminating Metroids, the famed bounty hunter Samus Aran goes to a quiet cantina to wind down.  To her surprise, she runs into a squad of off-duty Galactic Federation soldiers, including her old teammate Anthony Higgs ("REMEMBUH ME?").  They encourage her to share some recent stories of her exploits, and even the lone wolf Samus herself can appreciate having a good time with some company.

Guess who is finally playing Zero Mission, Metroid Fusion, and Super Metroid?  Our Wii broke and the Switch won't be backwards-compatible, so we decided that the best option was to invest in a Wii U.  I figured I'd make the most of the situation by taking full advantage of the expanded Virtual Console library.  It also helps to show some (monetary) support for our 30-year-old franchise, showing Nintendo what we want to see more of.

This particular GMod work is inspired by one of the endings for Zero Mission, which explains the creepy hooded bartender in the background.  I was also inspired by the first image of Samus Collection by tran4of3 , which depicts Samus as the sort of person who would be fun to hang out with at a bar or something.  I was also playing around with lighting and focus to try making Samus pop out in a darkened bar.

This is also a prologue of sorts to a larger Metroid-themed project that I've been interested in working on.  See, everyone always loves to point out everything that's wrong with a certain entry in the series... but, has anyone asked how it could have been fixed?  This project intends to touch upon various ideas I have for how Other M could have done the Metroid series justice.

For instance, in this picture alone, we see four G.F. soldiers who are each visually distinct, in terms of appearance and personality.  In addition to the canon appearance of Anthony Higgs as that guy who is a great friend and will always have your back, we have a tomboyish woman who is clearly enamored with Samus's stories of great adventure; a humanoid alien who enjoys drinking and having fun; and a grizzled man who seems disengaged and skeptical that Samus could really be that awesome.  Gee, I wonder which one of them might be a traitor?

In all seriousness, the fact that everybody except Anthony and Adam were generic and forgettable meant that the whole mole subplot had little emotional impact; why are we supposed to care that so-and-so is killing what's-his-face and that-other-guy?  Setting aside a little time for character development, even a little bit of it, would've given this more meaning.  It's like the early scenes of Aliens (AKA Metroid's inspiration), when we get to know the space marines before everything goes to hell and everybody dies.

Metroid belongs to Valve.  Half-Life and Team Fortress 2 belong to Valve.  Mass Effect belongs to BioWare.  Garry's Mod belongs to Garry Newman.
