My form and inspiration piece ended up being about money, and the idea of worth. We set a diamond in silver because it has great value. Here I set a 20 dollar bill in silver, and about everyone I know freaked out. They couldn't believe I "wasted" a 20 dollar bill.A funny story behind this is when I was presenting my intial concept to the class. I went up to the front and took some money out of my pocket and ripped it all in half. Again, everyone freaked out. It got their attention and proved that money is only valuable when silly people don't rip it apart.

I love the idea and I think it's very stylish. I simply love it. The only thing I would worry about when making it is isn't it a federal offense to destroy currency? Shh I won't tell anyone

Love this piece. Very cheeky! Always a good policy to question what's valuable - materials, concepts, attitudes, whatever. Like if I make a sculpture out of tool steel [link] which is meant to be worn (therefore blurring into the realm of jewelry), do people see it having the same value as something made of a precious metal? From a blacksmith's perspective, tool steel is the ultimate precious metal, for without it, there would be no way to make tools for anything else in our society. On the other hand, it sure doesn't say "personal status" like silver or gold.

It go's along with the notion that great art is only created by tearing apart long held beliefs in order to show another perspective of truth.
Also, it is a pretty nice piece.

how long did it take you to make this? 20 seems rather low for the amount of work that goes into something like this. Its really nice.

the design process spanned about one quarter or 10 weeks, 2 classes each week. but for the first 6 weeks we really didnt do anything. so it was actually about one or two weeks of design, and 2 more weeks of fabrication. if this was to be sold, the materials alone would cost about 100 USD. so thats not including labor or design time
