Description I think I failed on what I was trying to accomplish in this piece. The lighting and glowy stuff looks horrible.

She's supposed to be conjuring up a magical sphere of wind and snow, but it looks like swirly colors with sparklies. Her wing are supposed to be made of light, but I don't think that worked out at all. Besides working on the lighting on her body I can't think of another way to make her wings look like light.

On another note though, I finally finished something! ^^ I dragged myself away from the horrible urge to play that game and finished coloring this thing. The pic has been around for two weeks now

A little tid bit on the character - This is Col once again. She has the elemental powers of wind and ice and can put beings and beasts to sleep with her singing. She's from a peaceful and community based race, the Fae-Ryffs, so she also has the power to heal.

Oh, and I don't see this character as being anthromorphic so she's in fantasy - there you go.

And... I can't think of anything else to say so... time to play ma game

I love the grotesque/realistic touch you give to your zoomorphic/antropomorphic....whatever you want to call the characters It's a wonderful break from all the groase fluffyness around devart.

That's ok if some things didn't turn out the way you wanted.^_- Just something to work on. I think you did a wonderful coloring job, especially the fur. Nice work, keep it up!

Fantastic swirlie-wings. Also, you really did a nice job shading Col, especially around the legs! She looks 3-D.

I love the wings. Their design really goes well with the rest of the picture.

I love the scale-like details on the wings.. The sparklies look pretty, too! Nice color scheme.

I like the whole piece, but I follow you on the wing issue..not sure how else to make em though...
You did a kickass job on every other detail, though. I still love it!

Well presonally I think this looks great, but I completly understand where you're coming from, I'm just about never happy with anything I draw, no matter how many people tell me it's fine.

I think the ball looks very nice, and would be very diffecult to make look any different/better to suit the subject more, and for the wings, they look good as they are, but if you wanted them to look like they're make of light, maybe making them transparent and letting the light glow further away from the wings themselves and effect even the lighting on the main body of the character it might look a little more like light. Though then again I've not tried to do anything like this myself, so that was pretty much guesswork from general knowlage of the other junk I do.

Though as I said at the start, it looks great to me.

For the most part I like it. I like all your stuff-- always so nicely colored and original, to boot. I enjoy your work more consistantly than just about anybody else on my devwatch.

Suggestions for your problems--
If you want her wings to look like they're made of light, you have to get rid of the black outline on them. You could try getting rid of the outline alltogether, or changing the outline into a light-to-pale blue of sorts. Experiment with how fuzzy you make these blue lines.
Also, the dark blues are a bit too dark to communicate being made of light. If the blue parts themselves are just supposed to be the only parts not made of light, put glows and reflections on their...er, can't think of the word...scales?
If the wings are indeed made of light, it should be even brighter where the upper and lower wings overlap.

As for a conglomeration of wind and snow, you simply need to get rid of the heavy sparkles. If you keep any, they should be small, and not all the same exact shape.
Snow is crumply and wet. Rather than using just smooth strokes, try putting some almost grainy-looking bits and clumps swirling about. Snow looks kinda fuzzy when it's falling, so you could play around with that. Maybe look up a picture of a blizzard or something.

I'll definitely have to go look at some snow refs. I'm glad I put everything on its own layer

Thanks a lot for the tips and the comment! ^_^

The wings are wonderful. I wouldn't say they looked like they are made of light but they are deffinately glowing, they remind me of Native American art.

I think if you added the wings seperately in Photoshop and set the opacity on them to, say, 50%, then had a background texture or something, it would look like it. Just trying to give tips

Then again, I can't draw worth crap, so, at least tis worth a shot.

Maybe the wings would look more like light if you didn't outline them.... They look like butterfly-wingish random background designs to me, which is still cool. Nice expression you've got on Col. Her legs look a bit short to me, though (or is that her species' anatomy?). Good stuff.

The glowy effect doesn't look like it was hand-painted like the rest, if that's what you mean. And the wings could use some blur effect or be blurred hand-painted as well, to add light. I think you could go back and do that to the wings easier than fixing the sphere in the middle. It's fine otherwise- the linework and color is excellent!

Heh, I was thinking the same thing when I looked at it again, the wings look very dull and flat colored compared to the rest of her. Changing the wing outlines sounds like a good idea. Gah, lightng is so hard

Thanks for the tip
