Description Yo, Noir again! So I've been working on these little guys for a while. They're based on a native Australian moth (more info on them later), so I've been obsessing over presenting them in the best way I could. It's been a blast, though!

Anyway, I hope you enjoy my content! See you again soon!

DESIGN & CONCEPT
--------------------------

The inspiration from this Pokemon came in large part from the Australian moth Phyllodes imperalis otherwise known as the pink underwing moth, known for the striking features of its larval stage. Other animals that influenced its design are the Dryandra moth, and leafwing butterflies in the subfamily Charaxinae, which are known for the beautiful 'head capsules' that the caterpillars have. They are otherwise collectively known as 'dragonhead caterpillars.'

Abstract themes for these Pokemon are old, indigenous belief systems that were often characterized as 'pagan' from Western observers. Seen as 'other,' they were often construed to be 'evil' and 'dangerous' to Western civilization, and were thus outlawed. These Pokemon are a reflection of the negative connotations these beliefs systems had back in the day.

SKULKREEP: These Pokemon are most active at night, but also emerge at dawn and dusk. They feed on leaf litter in the forests they inhabit, blending among the dead leaves easily with its dull brown colors. Their bodies are incredibly resilient however, and one should take care not to step onto the sharp spikes protruding from its body. In the day, they will hide among the roots and rocks. Because of these behaviors, they are considered some of the rarest bugs in the region, and are prized pets for kids and adults alike. Their colors are taken directly from the caterpillar stage of Phyllodes imperalis, with some colors shuffled around. (Do look these guys up if you have the chance - they are quite the sight!) Thematically, they represent a mask, one of the most enduring icons of 'pagan' (shamanist, animist) belief systems of many, many cultures around the world.

SPOOKOON: Despite their terrifying visage, this Pokemon is relatively harmless unlike its previous form - only capable of hissing if intimidated. Despite this, countless children's rhymes and folk tales warn of the Pokemon stealing the soul of the person looking into its eyespots. Nearly imperceptible at the night, these Pokemon choose very well-hidden and shady spots to hide as its waits to evolve. Once it molts, it will leave the shell of its former self stuck on trees. In the olden days, these shells are collected, cleaned, and worn for special occasions, as they were believed to still hold the magical properties of the Pokemon. These practices have since been forgotten, though children still find the shells from time to time and wear them as masks. The colors for these Pokemon are chosen for accentuate its spooky, mask-like patterns. Their saturated colors make them appear almost black while hidden in the shadows. Thematically, they represent death rites, i.e. the arrangements and customs performed by a particular culture to prepare a dead loved one for the afterlife or rebirth.

MIASMOTH: These Pokemon is said to only seen on moonlit nights. Their wings are said to be immaterial while in motion, existing instead in a gaseous state that surrounds then. They leave a ghostly trail as they silently patrols the dark densely forested landscape, apparently in search of others of their kind, never stopping to feed. These Pokemon are attributed to the disappearances of many people foolish enough to hike at night. If someone is caught in the trail it leaves, they will become entranced and follow these Pokemon mindlessly until the morning. Once they come to, they would find themselves led deep into the forest with no hope of finding themselves back home. In actuality, the scales from the wings is a strong nerve-blocking agent that puts people in a fugue state if inhaled, and thus 'ash wing dust' is sometimes used in folk medicine as painkillers and muscle relaxants. Due to the mystery surrounding these Pokemon, they are feared and even revered by the native people of the region. It is believed that they are guides to the afterlife, if not harbingers of death themselves. The design of this Pokemon is a combination of the the pink underwing moth and the dryandra moth, both of which have striking colors on their second pair of wings. Coloring choices of these Pokemon are a combination of the larval and adult stages of the moth Phyllodes imperialis, as well as the dryandra moth Carthaea saturnioides. Its body's skull-and-bones design is a reflection of its connection to death and fugue states. In theme, these Pokemon represent the concept of death, rebirth and the afterlife (as well as the related concept of zombification) and the mysteries that surrounds them. These concepts have strong associations with butterflies and moths in cultures all over the world.

----------
NAMES
----------

Skulkreep is named from the words 'skull,' pertaining to the skull-like pattern on its thorax, 'skulk,' meaning to move around unseen, and 'creep,' which is both in reference to its mode of locomotion, as well as an informal term for a scary person.

Spookoon is a portmanteau of the words 'spook,' in following the macabre theme of this Pokemon family, and 'cocoon'.

Miasmoth is a combination of the words 'miasma,' a kind of poisonous vapor associated with the spread of disease and death (though nowadays miasma is considered an obselete medical theory), and 'moth.'

---------------------------
EVOLUTION METHOD
---------------------------

Skulkreep is the unevolved form of this evolution line.

Spookoon evolves from Skulkreep starting from Lv 13.

very nice design, very aposematic and fitting for a nocturnal pokemon.
question: all those myths about their soul-stealing ability are true or mere tales, like it happens with absol?
