Description Part 2: unarla.deviantart.com/art/Bunc…

Bout time too, the last one was made in 2013 unarla.deviantart.com/art/Nort…

Basically I've made there be more difference between the subspecies, which I've changed to different species all together but they still can (and do) hybridise.

In short

Northerners
- Beluadente sepentrio
More lanky and top heavy. Dark eye patches are found in close to all individuals, this is because it helps prevent cancer on the eyelids (the same reason pole hereford cattle are bred for dark eye rims). As well as this the eyes themselves are more slanted and set more to the side of the skull to help spot prey and predators in large open spaces. Eyes are also typically dark brown or orange in colour. Pelt is short and usually tawny or sandy in colour being spotted, splodged or patternless, it is also common for them to have a darker underbelly and mask patterns but socks are rare. The patterns are darker brown often with a red hint in males. Their face profile is a lot straighter and their chin is more prominent to support the deep roots of their lower tusks (which are shorter in Southerners). Their claws are black in colour and non retractable like that of a canine, they wear down while running, the thumb claw however is held up and so remains sharp to help tackle prey.

Southerners- Beluadente austellus
Bulkier than the Northerners and more even looking proportionally. The males often have manes, but not all full like the one pictured. It is also common for males to have long patches of fur on the elbows, chin, ankles, tail tufts, backs of the legs or along the spine. Females do not have manes nor do Northern males. Southern females frequently have blue feature patches, often on top of the head or around the eyes. The males are usually russet in base colour and patterns can be a darker brown or black, sometimes white or tawny. Females can be grey or cool brown in base colour with darker patterns including black, white or tawny are also possible. Stripes and socks are common as are pale underbellies or no patterns. Their eyes are more rounded in shape and forward placed with more prominent eyebrow ridges. They also have retractable claws and smaller thumbs, like the Northerners they have a dewclaw on the inside of the back feet that can be moved down for extra grip while hunting. Only the upper tusks protrude while the mouth is closed and in females it may not be visible until the age of 5 years or more.

So there you go, crash course in tusked ones
Might add more to this... nah who am I kidding, I always forget things like that

These are amazing! I love all the fine details that tell the two species apart. Extremely fascinating aesthethically.

I was considering making a competition to design background characters for the comic.
If you'd like, for 25 points you can keep the design afterwards
