I will sometimes just use a bunch of different reference pictures and fill in the blanks myself. If I am drawing something technical like a car, then I will 100% use a reference picture and will use the grid technique to draw the outline.

Ah good! That answers my questions!

I´ve been drawing cars and planes all my life so need little or no reference at all. But when I decide to make a copy from a certain reference (esp. when its not favourite subject) it becomes difficult to determine the how the layout should be made.

I always see tutorial on how a picture should be copied exactly by referring to tutorials like yours but what if i try to copy from somewhere else? I would be completely lost. 

Here is what I thought--

Attention must be given to the skill on designing the most basic layout of every picture, animals, geometric, landscape etc.. Cause thats what most novice drawers could not pick up, as far as I can see

For example- A front view of a bulldog. The procedure to start drawing is to draw a square, divided vertically and horizontaly to provide accurate positions of the entire face parts, correct? That´s what many cant seem to catch

I hope you understand what I say, you´re the pro anyway, I´m halfway up the ladder...

Yeah I agree that sometimes it is better for a tutorial to show how to create your own drawings from reference pictures of your own choosing. So instead of me showing how to draw just one image of a shark, it is better to show a process on how to adapt a reference picture and then maybe discuss the techniques. But I also find tutorials on one particular reference picture helpful.

I can give a tip for drawing the outline of really technical subjects such as cars and planes - trace it! If you are trying to draw a hyper-realistic drawing, it is much better in my opinion to trace a general outline than try draw it freehand. Alternatively, the majority of people I know (MYSELF included) use the technique of drawing a grid over the reference picture and their paper and then drawing each individual square (it makes it a whole lot easier to set out the drawing), but the end result is something that you could achieve much quicker by just quickly tracing a general outline. Very, very, very few people can actually draw a technical drawing freehand - there's really no shame in tracing the outlines of cars for hyper-realistic drawings. 

The art is all in the shading, not the outline.

Anyway its good discussing with you. I am just hoping there would be more tutorials on real basics, for novice´s sake
