I want to show you a step where the hair is not finished. Some of you have requested that I describe more in detail how I draw hair.
Here are some tips for you who are interested in knowing what I do to make the hair look more real:
When I draw hair I basically draw several (thousands of) lines in the direction I want the hair to flow. The realistic part comes when you draw the hair that goes against the flow. Like a single hair, which is a little high-lighted over the the darker parts of the hair.
The hair on the left part of this picture is not finished as you can see. What I have done here is, as I described above, drawing severeral single lines in the way I want it to flow. However if that is all I do, it will not have the realistic look that looks more alive. Next step is to draw even more lines to have a good bace with flowing hair. Next to that I will draw the hair that goes over the flowing hair. You will see more on what I'm talking about in my next WIP.
So the hint for today on drawing hair is;
1st: Draw several lines in the the direction you want it to flow. Keep on doing so until you have a good base with flowing hair. Start with a hard pencil and draw layers over layers.
