Next up in this little wedding miniseries, the fourth pair to get married, Twilight and Thorax!

Princess Twilight Sparkle and King Thorax had had something of a working relationship for years already, having both their first ever meeting and their proper introduction under awkward circumstances. After the absolute wreck that was their second meeting, they mutually went out of their ways to keep interaction between them to a comfortable minimum on the occasions that they had to be in the same room. But eventually Thorax, along with various other royals from neighboring countries, was invited to that year’s Summer Sun Celebration. During the long night before the raising of the sun, the various diplomats socialized together, Thorax spending most of his time with Ember and Spike before eventually growing fatigued and stopping to rest on one of the castle’s balconies. Twilight had also grown overwhelmed by the crowd a bit earlier, and found herself resting on the same balcony. After exchanging nervous hello’s and both relaying the fact that they weren’t trying to disturb each other and were just here to recharge, they fell into a comfortable silence. Eventually a conversation was struck up, Thorax curious about the origins of the celebration since he’d been too nervous to ask Celestia directly, which Twilight eagerly explained. From there they spoke more about the royals, which lead to discussing themselves. Twilight shared that even after being princess for as long as she had, she still felt unqualified for the responsibility—boy did Thorax understand how that felt! Thorax complained there was so much about changelings that had become unknown to changelings themselves after Chrysalis’s long rule, which was causing him struggles—what a coincidence, Twilight had been skimming some ancient texts about changelings that might be valuable! After hours of sharing that got more personal and emotional as it went on, and finding themselves rapidly growing closer, the sun rose over the horizon, bathing them both in the light of dawn, their hooves touching as they leaned closer and—wait the sun? OH DEAR CELESTIA THEY MISSED THE SUMMER SUN CELEBRATION!

Luckily, when they rushed down to the Canterlot gardens, apologizing and explaining until they were blue in the face, Celestia only giggled and slyly told them that she was just happy that they had had a good time. When Spike asked later on about why they had missed the celebration, Thorax just stammered out an explanation that Twilight was actually a very lovely pony when she could stop talking about chairs.

The pair dated for many years before choosing to tie the knot (in which they lived together part time in the changeling hive and part time in Twilight’s castle), as while they were in love it would still be a political alliance between their people, and therefor an extra-big decision (Rarity may have nagged Twi to put a ring on it already towards the end). The months that went into planning the wedding itself were a nightmare like nopony could have predicted, with Twilight’s perfectionist ways combining with the need to please both of their peoples with the right traditions and locations—should they be married by a pony or by a changeling, and who’s people would be more upset by the answer, freakouts about legally being the changeling queen if they do this, Pinkie Pie absolutely pulling her hair out trying to help plan this gosh-darn party from Tartarus—basically it put a significant strain on everypony even remotely invested in either their relationship or Equestrian politics, and there was a greeeeat deal of fighting. But eventually the day came, Thorax stood before the changeling hive, Spike stood next to him ordained and ready to marry his closest friends, and Twilight may have had a quick happy-cry as she walked down the aisle, feeling relieved for the first time in half a year, because it had really worked out.

When the party was over, a frazzled Pinkie Pie may or may not have cornered Spike and told him to never let his mom marry his best friend ever again. He agreed.
