Prompt: Ice Gliding

Season: Winter 2022-23

Characters: Caltha, Vesemir and Calypso

Description: Under Vesemir's watchful eye, Caltha wanders about the Volairian territory. As they traverse the snowy landscape, Caltha's ears flicker toward to the sound of excited voices and panicked yips. Her guardian is seemingly unbothered by this, but the youngster's curiosity leads her toward the now frozen Gilded Creek. When they reached the river bank, the she-wolf did a slow sweep of the area. She saw a few Volairians sniffing and pawing at the ice, some of them even daring to venture onto it. Then, lifting her eyes to the horizon, she spotted a lone figure gliding effortlessly across the Creek. Caltha's jaw dropped as her eyes followed the wolf, taking note of her rustic colored pelt. Who was that?

Without thinking, the young wolf bounded toward the Creek, ignoring Vesemir's shouts. Any fantasy her mind could have conjured up was immediately discarded the moment her paws touched down on the ice. All four of her legs slid out from under her and she landed with a loud 'oof' on the slippery surface. Her ears immediately flickered toward the snorts and cackles of her packmates, the loudest of whom was Vesemir. Caltha's cheeks flushed with embarrassment.

'I have to get off this ice!' she thought as she tried to scramble toward the bank, but her wobbly limbs kept buckling and sliding. She kept her eyes closed and her ears pressed down against her fur, blocking out Vesemir's teasing remarks while slowly crawling back to land.

Happy New Year everybody! Hope 2023 will be kinder to us all!

Poor Caltha, she's probably not going to attempt Ice Gliding anytime soon. Vesemir taking on the jerk, big-bro role already... speaking of which, notice any resemblance between them? . The title is a reference to the fact that this is Caltha's second winter ever.
