Prompt: 'Almost is never enough.'

Season: Winter 2022-23

Characters: Caltha and Calypso

Description: Caltha was wandering the frozen Volaires land when she spotted a familiar wolf limping along. Drawing closer, she recognized them as the expert ice-glider who had been dancing across the Gilded Creek just a few days back. From the wolf’s gritted teeth, it was obvious that she was in intense pain. Having started training as a Mesana, Caltha stamped down her nervousness and greeted the ailing wolf, intending to help. Surprisingly, the taller female seemed unbothered by the condamné symbol on her brow and followed her gentle instructions without complaint.

Recalling Countess Miluna's teachings, Caltha started a conversation, keeping the she-wolf calm and distracted while she examined the sore paws. The wolf introduced herself as 'Calypso' and that she was a legate Inferí. Not finding any damage or bruising, Caltha took a seat beside her, happy to chat with an open-minded wolf for once. From the way Calypso spoke, it was clear that she believed in hard work and pushing herself, she was determined to make her King and pack proud. Caltha hesitated to agree, seeing how the brutal work-ethic was clearly hurting Calypso, maybe more than it was helping. She advised Calypso to take it easy for a while and that the overexertion might even reverse any of her hard-won progress. Calypso nodded reluctantly but explained that she simply didn't want to do anything half-heartedly. 'Almost' was never enough for her, she had to give it her all.

Her words and conviction both inspired and slightly intimidated Caltha. Volaires was not a pack for the weak willed, and every Volairian she met only reaffirmed that.

So yeah, Caltha has made a new acquaintance ^^ and she's putting her training to use, even if she's not permitted to 'treat' a patient yet. Where's Vesemir? I dunno, probably somewhere sleeping with his eyes open lol. Caltha will return to him tho, she's a good kid.
