Description Argh, I submitted this earlier, and found some boo-boos. Had to change the picture--but it wouldn't show up. D8<

And so I have effectively lost my carefully-written description. But here are some notes that I can recall:

1) First ever digitally-coloured picpic, thanks to .
2) Done over 2 days digitally, plus another day for sketching/inking.
3) Darling Kai from Samurai Dueler's League: outfit similar to original SDL outfit. But different in a way--more modern, (doh), more detailed, somehow more... adult.
4) V. happy with this.
5) Overkill of paintbrush patterns, BUT I think I managed to disguise them fairly well.
6) Favourite bit: Bottom hems.
7) Background not mine: [link]

And that's about all that I can remember. Meh.

Hey, this is pretty good for a first-time full-digital colouring! I love the colours, and the way you've got the yellow and white amongst the dark red. Red is tricky to work with, and you've managed to handle its dominance really well! It looks great with the other colours.

The design is gorgeous. I think this is my favourite out of your three outfits for her so far... not sure if that's because I have a preference for darker colours, or if I just really like that plum over-top thing with its cute sleeves. The skirt is pretty, too, and those stars ARE cute. Glad that you decided to add the details, after all.

Now... some critique and suggestions? The first thing is that you can really get away with making the shadows a LOT darker. The shadows at her elbows and under her upper arms are fine, but I can barely see the shading on her skin at all. I know from personal experience that it seems really scary when you go for a colour THAT much darker, but really, it works.

Another way to do it, as I have with the shading in my latest Aeo pic, is to do ALL the shadows on one layer. In black or another dark colour. And then adjust its transparency and play with layer effects.

Another suggestion - not much of a critique - is to put a shadow or faded outline of some sort around Kai, or make the background less pronounced. I think that while it IS a very pretty background, it's too detailed, and that detracts the eyes from Kai herself.

But overall, great attempt! I'm sure you had fun, and will definitely do it again. No going back now, heh heh. Thanks for sharing!
