Description

The Show jumping started in time. Victoria mounted Freischütz, strocked his neck and played with his braided mane, while she was waiting for her turn. Number one started, she watched the horse closely. She was not jealous about being first in a competition. Luckyly, she couldn't remember being first. The others heard the moderator, they heard about the problems of the other riders... On the other hand, the first rider could start without prejudices, just knowing about the own skills and the faithful relationship between horse and rider.
Victoria did not know any of the starters. She watched the second horse, as it flew over the obstacles, a beautiful blue roan stallion. He looked so self-confident and calm, that she was almost worried about Freischütz. The bay Trakehner played with his ears and raised his head. The competition already had caught him, he was waiting for his turn, he was tensed, his muscles shaked lightly from time to time.
Another 7 horses to go, while she watched the third entrant. Another stallion, the third in a row! She wondered, if there were any mares in this test. This horse looked athletic as hell. He seemed so powerful, that Victoria was sure, he could simply step over the obstacles without any problems.
Finally: Number 10. She would be next. While the silver bay stallion was rushing through the course, Victoria gave a short smile at Samantha, who waited outside the arena and then guided Freischütz into the circle, after the course was prepared for another rider. When the moderator had introduced them, she pressed her stallion into a canter and Freischütz followed her instructions. They headed for the first obstacle, Victoria leaned over Freischütz' neck, when the stallions hooves left the ground and he flew over the first jump.
They landed, Freischütz caught his balance again, they turned and rushed towards the next jump.
Victoria remembered their first competition. Freischütz and Steini had started together, but Steini had been way faster. Even though the two of them did not hit a single obstacle, Freischütz could not place, because he had been too slow.
So they had worked on his speed. Every single day Victoria had trained him to run faster, jump higher and still keep his fascination for his job. They had worked on his stamina, on his strength and this was their first big competition. Even if they would not place, Victoria was so proud of him. After all, Freischütz was the first horse, that she had trained all by herself. His success would also be her credit!
As they left the course, the audience applauded her, as they had for any other entrant. The next rider entered the circle and Victoria dismounted her horse. Freischütz was calm now, even though his neck was wet from sweat, he had enjoyed his turn a lot. He pressed his warm nose against Victorias back, when she walked towards Samantha, who just finished training to wait for the dressage competition.
„What do you think?“, she asked and smiled.
„I think you did very well. But you still need to work a lot. He's still a beginnerm you know?!“
Victoria nodded. „Yes, you're right. Well, I will now go and groom him. I try to be back before you start with your dressage test!“, she said and leaded Freischütz to the guest stable.
