Description

Draehgaals make poor city guards but very good gate guards, with sufficient modifications of course. Though only the proven veterans get to guard the outer gates of cities of Doung'zååh. They are deliberately blinded to sharpen their senses since draehgaal eyesight tends to be subpar by human standards anyway. A third leg is added to increase stability, lower their centre of gravity and makes them more difficult to move, good traits to have when your job is to obstruct others. Finally, the lower left arm is amputated and replaced with a jagged looking claw, not too dissimilar from a set of garden shears. The prosthetic is meant to catch and break weapons and limbs alike, and the added spikes make it possible to puncture armour too.

In their right hand the draehgaal would wield a staple among law enforcement of the region; a thorn pick, but this one is still pending for its replacement graft. Thorn picks are typically considered defensive sidearms by many and is usually kept in the off-hand much like a parrying dagger. The pick has a short bent shaft lined with hock-like barbs rising in size towards the hooked "head" of the weapon. Its thorns are meant to hock and tangle into an opponents weapon, shield or clothing, but does not work half bad on exposed flesh, just a lot more painful for the receiving end.
Gear maintenance is rather lax in this region of the known world as it's a tradition for warriors to keep superficial knick and scars as badges of honour, draehgaals included. Veterans and outer wall guards often keep trophies as a means of intimidation, teeth are the most common in Doung'zååh. Draehgaal gate guards also sniff out contraband in customs with a superior officer overseeing the matter and are rarely wrong.
