Fae paused as I thought about what she had said, she was exhausted from being up all night but still I could see her natural composure as she uttered “So why don’t you tell me how you came to live hiding behind the cupboard? Scorpio told me that you lived there” I looked up in slight surprise that she knew exactly where to find me “Yes I have known you are living here for some time, but if we are going to be open with each other then why don’t you tell me how you came to be?” Part of me shuddered as I knew it would mean telling her my story about how the Spider had saved me from a monster and yet it wasn’t the monster that filled me with such dread but telling Fae, who clearly adored the Spider, why despite her saving me from a certain death, I was so afraid of that devilish girl. While Fae sipped her barely steaming coffee, I perched myself on the roof of the home that she and Lenola had spent all night making for me, despite the roof being made from mere cardboard, their combined love and commitment ensured that it was sturdy enough to support my weight.
Nervously I contemplated how to tell Fae the truth while fully aware that so far I had only seen a vague frown upon her face once, when I had referred to Scorpio as “The Spider” yet despite my nerves I was now in debt to Fae’s kindness and as such had no apprehension to tell her how I had come to be in the house. “I took a deep breath and looked into her exhausted eyes and gently smiled “It was just after Christmas, you had all gone to bed and the house was so silent that I felt certain that I could be alone and go unnoticed, but as it turned out the Spider knew I was here and she was always watching” Fae’s unbroken smile briefly faded as that name fell from my lips, a little moment of resent at hearing that child she adored referred to in a demeaning manner. “I crept onto the empty table to hunt for some of the leftovers from your feast, all the colluding smells drawing me deeper towards the savoury secrets hidden in plain sight, when I caught sight of a strange green box with a bright blue light coming from it?” Fae glanced at me with a smile “Evelyn’s phone?” I nodded back, recollecting it’s soft blue haze filling an otherwise dark room offset by nearby candles slowly burning out “Curious I stepped towards the strange sight and if it’s glow wasn’t ominous enough, when I plucked up the courage and touched the strange glowing blue, it was warm but more amazingly, as I moved my hand, the things inside the box moved along with my fingers”
Fae let out a soft chuckle “Lenola calls them pictureboxes'' with her eyes showing signs of fighting a long battle just to remain open, I looked across the room and saw another picture of the Spider hanging proudly on the wall and sighed “As I played with the magic within the box, I touched a strange red emblem in the box and a video of a young dancing girl started playing. She was so beautiful, in a strange dress and she spoke in a language that I have never encountered before, her voice was mesmerising” Fae chuckled “Evelyn has a thing for Anime and Japanese music” Fae seemed oddly happy as I continued “I listened to her voice, lusting for more and as she started to sing again, something appeared in the distance, a monster with glowing red eyes, yet I knew that though the girl kept reaching out, her arms could not venture beyond the strange glowing box, so I felt safe to watch another, though she had changed her clothes and hair without changing them?” Fae chuckled “Evelyn does like to watch some strange things!” the warmth in her voice ushered me to continue “However as she danced and sang, the creature watched me and drew ever closer, until it was stood right beside the pretty girl but more worryingly it let out an awful screech and started running towards me, reaching out and slashing with claws in place of it’s fingers”
Fae seemed to perk up a little as I shuddered nervously “As the monster come much closer it slashed at the box and it’s claws cut little marks in the box, terrified by the sight, I started to flee with the creature soon breaching through the box and screeching as it chased me along the table through the food I had come in search of and the few candles burning away. With no one around I was convinced that the creature soon enough would catch me, but unfortunately for both me and the creature, we weren’t the only ones in that room, the Spider was watching, she was always watching” Fae frowned a little “You mean Scorpio was watching you?” I nodded having effectively been told off by Fae and continued “As the creature chased me along the table with spoons and food flying in our wake, the Spider” I glanced at Fae and saw her scowl return, until I corrected myself “…. I mean, Scorpio made her presence known, she appeared from nowhere” I noticed a wry smile on Fae’s face as she chuffed “She is good at doing that” proudly to the air as I shuddered slightly at the thought of how stealthy Scorpio was and just how proud of her Fae appeared to be.
“As I raced along, she reached down, offering me her hand with an enormous glistening blade in the other, she uttered “Let me help you” in a confident voice as I raced to reach the safety of her helping hand, she grasped me firmly and turned her attention to the monster that was hunting me down, screaming and slashing to reach me” Fae glanced upon me with a confused look in her eyes “So you are afraid of Scorpio because she saved you from a monster? A monster that you brought into the house?” I looked down in shame and shook my head “I remember the look in her eyes as she took me in her hand, the confidence in her voice, her fearless nature and the unwavering glare she cast upon the creature as she lifted me to safety, but that’s not why I am so afraid of her”
