Description Part 1 of a 4-part in-class project where we had to take an object and try exploring it in four different ways.

For this one I painted how I would normally start a gesture in class so that when I painted the other 3, I could see what I liked and didn't like about how i already paint naturally.

About 1 hour, oil on canvas paper

Weird. That bottle looks full, to me.

As an evolving artist myself, I find myself often asking the same question--whether I should do what's technically correct technique, or if I should just go with what feels natural. Personally, I think this is my favorite of the four you did of the bottle. I particularly like the bottom of the bottle, where you really got a good grasp for that weird, warpy thing that bottles tend to do. I think, overall, it has a very Van Gogh sort of feel--not perfectly realistic, but tantalizingly close. I think in this case--as I think in most cases--the artist's natural-ness shows through in a very favorable way. In other words--as I've used a great many already >.>;--I like it. ^^
