Name:
Kalawai'a, Kai
D.O.B:
06 . 26 . 2034
Sex:
M
Class Year:
I
Club:
tba
Role:
DPS ( Damage per second / Damage Dealer )
Quirk / Ability:
Water and Heat Manipulation
Quirk / Ability Information Guide:Steam
The combination name of his hybrid quirk. The water manipulation and heat manipulation are far more powerful when working together, and are often most manipulation together. However, within limited uses, both can be used separately.
《 Aquakinesis 》
★★★☆☆
This allows Kai to manipulate water (on its own). With this, he can manipulate water up to 10 meters within his skin contact (most effective in pools of water). When touching another, he can also manipulate the water within their body, along with the water within his own body.
Cooldown | Limitations:
Aquakinesis can ONLY be used where there is physical bodies of water and cannot be used on any moisture within the air. He must be touching said body of water to manipulate it (the more his body touches the water, the more he can manipulate it). However, manipulating water outside of his body taxes his energy. The larger the amount he wants to manipulate, the more energy it drains from him. When using water within his own body, he can only use as much water as IS in his body, and can end up killing himself if he were to use all the water within his body. He must regulate the use of water within his own body as to not dehydrate himself nor cause himself to get sick. Too much water in his body also causes him to get sick.

《 Thermalkinesis 》
★★★☆☆
Alike to his Aquakinesis, excepting with his heat manipulation. He can manipulate heat within anything he touches IF there is heat in said substance. He can either add more heat to the object he's touching or take heat from the object he's touching. This is limited to a 10 meter radius when used upon larger items such as pavement and cement. When touching another, he can also take MOST of the heat from a person (he can't take away all the heat in another's body, though he can take a considerable amount to induce hypothermia if not careful), as well as add heat to another.
Cooldown | Limitations:
Thermalkinesis can only be used with objects containing heat before-hand and cannot be used to manipulate heat in the air. He must be touching an object to take/add heat to it. When he drains heat from another object he must take the heat inside himself before transferring it elsewhere, acting as the medium. The same is said when he puts heat from his own body into something else. The addition of too much heat into his body can cause dehydration, dizziness, sickness, and, if not careful, can end up overheating his brain. The loss of too much heat can cause him to contract hypothermia (especially if he's around water).

《 Steampunk 》
★★★☆☆
The combination of his heat and water manipulation, he can create steam. The same limitations as Aqua/Thermalkinesis apply.
Cooldown | Limitations:
The combined limitations of Aqua/Thermalkinesis apply. When creating steam from his own body he consumes both heat and water within his body.
Background:
Childhood: Kai's childhood wasn't all that eventful. He grew up on the island of Molokai, and lived in Kaunakakai. While he was growing up, his father, an experienced fisherman (and of which Kai inherited his water manipulation from), began to teach the ever-curious Kai about the waters and waves, eventually giving in to Kai's pleadings to teach him how to sail. Kai began to take a deeper love for the ocean, and would often tell his mother, who worked on the main island (of which Kai inherited his heat quirk from), all about it. Kai was the middle child and loved playing with his older brother, Ahi, and his older sister, Pualani (who liked being called Lani for short), until they grew old enough to move out of the house. Despite his older brother being eight years older than him, and despite his older sister being five years older than him, he still got along with them and kept a close bond to them, despite them moving out and only occasionally visiting him. Three years later his younger sister, Mele, was born, and two years after that, his younger brother, Kaleo, (who liked being called Leo. Kai continuously called Kaleo as 'Leo' due to his younger brother being born with autism) followed suit. With his mother being gone on the main island a majority of the day at her job of maid and pool service at a hotel, and his father being gone with his fishing job for most of the morning and night, Kai took it upon himself when he turned nine to start taking care of Leo and Mele, with Ahi and Lani helping out whenever they visited. One particularly cloudy day, when Kai was eleven, Kai and his family visited Papohaku beach for a little family outing. The clouds hadn't disturbed them, and they enjoyed their day there. However, their peace was interrupted when a tourist's child, a young boy, started getting swept out by the riptide. Without hesitating Kai dove into the water to attempt and save the child, going in when he suspected the riptide would have no effect. His dad and Ahi also swam out to help the child, when the riptide began to kick in. Since Ahi and his father were much larger, they had a stronger fight against the riptide and managed to keep from being pulled out to sea, but Kai wasn't so lucky. The waves were ruthless, pounding back on him as he struggled to keep afloat. Even though he'd developed his quirks at this point, he hadn't had much TRUE practice with either of them and had no way of helping himself through the water via water manipulation. One particularly nasty incoming wave pushed him further down into the water, low enough to hit some neighboring coral and bang his head against a rock. He was knocked unconscious, but Ahi managed to find and rescue him from the water. Kai had to be given CPR once he was pulled from the water. Ever since waking up from the incident, Kai has had a fear of deeper water that kept plaguing him in nightmares, so much so that it became a problem. When asked about the scars on his head, however, he lied, simply stating that a coconut had beaned him in the head when he wasn't looking. He told the lie so often that he even began to believe it himself. And after the incident, Kai seemed to change, going from an energetic bundle of joy to a reserved, quiet, and nervous guy.
Adolescence: As Kai began to attend middle school, and dating began to happen, Kai began to notice some odd change in him- for some reason he couldn't stop himself from not only admiring women, but men. However, as Kai didn't happen to know many others who seemed to have the same issue, and with his lust for attention and adoration lost in the waves at Papohaku beach, he kept this silent. During some "private investigations" (he loved to call what he'd search for on the internet a private investigation if he wanted to keep it labelled as a secret) on the computer, he discovered a term that matched what he felt, and he could finally label the feeling; bisexuality. Kai continued to keep it a secret afterwards as his parents began to talk about how they wanted someone to take over the family business and keep quirks running in the bloodline, particularly pushing Kai towards his father's profession of fishing. When Kai was fourteen, he ended up pulling Ahi and Lani away from their spouses to privately discuss the issue, since he didn't know what he'd say to his parents. They encouraged him to tell the truth when he was ready. A few months later, a nasty storm came in, with winds strong enough to shake the sturdy houses slightly and bring the waves up further onto the islands, causing minor flooding. Kai had been outside, playing with Leo and Mele when this occurred. Neither of his parents were home (nor could they return home due to the turbulent weather), and Kai was left with his younger siblings and Lani at the house. While watching Leo and Mele, Kai and Lani began to bicker about how long the storm would last and how bad it would be. During this, Leo slipped out of the house and into the storm. Once they realized that Leo was gone, Kai and Lani began to search everywhere for the curious nine year old. Kai spotted Kaleo being swept down the street by one of the rampant floods, and Kai began to panic as he remembered his own near-drowning experience. Without thinking about what could happen to him, Kai swam into the flood as fast as he could, practically willing the flood to let him get to his younger brother. Kaleo had started to realize the danger he was in, and when he saw Kai, he reached out for his older brother. Kai, in his desperate struggle, reached out and snagged Kaleo, then tried to get out of the flood by slowly letting himself get closer to the edges of the flood, where it was easier to grab onto things. Kai managed to snag a slightly knocked-over lamp post (wherein, thankfully, the electricity had been shut off) with his free hand, still holding onto Kaleo as best he could while Leo held onto him. While searching for a way out, he found a large rock that hadn't been moved by the flood. He swam over to it with Leo helping out and sat Leo onto the rock, beginning to climb on himself, when his feet got knocked out from under him and he plunged back into the flood. He ended up ramming into several cars and a few stop signs before receiving a cut on his left leg from stray items under the water, though since the water was too murky, even Kai couldn't identify what he'd been cut by. The flood started to calm down and Kai managed to swim out to a stable tree, clinging onto the branches as best he could until the flood washed away. After the storm died down, Lani went out and found Leo, then followed Leo's pointing to where Kai was and rescued him, applying first-aid to the leg. He was admitted into the hospital and came out of it with a minor concussion, scratches and bruises, and a stitched scar on his left leg that joined new, faint scars across his right arm, his chest, and the scars from the rock five years prior. Due to this bravery, his parents decided to give him traditional, native Hawaiian tattoos, some of which were used to help mask his new scars. He gained the tattoos over where a majority of the scars were- down his right arm and right chest, draping up over his neck to cover parts of that, down his left thigh, and then around his wrists and ankles.
One year later, his parents continued to discuss their idea of Kai falling in love with a lady and even began talk about arranged marriages with one of the richest business men on the island, who had a daughter around Kai's age that had a flower-based quirk. They began to talk about the arranged marriage due to the fact that it'd help both his parent's businesses to have Kai married to the daughter of someone rich, as well as keep quirks growing on the islands of Hawaii. During one of these discussions at dinner, Kai began getting tired of hearing it and snapped, being unable to repress his anger and annoyance. In his angry, rambling rant, he ended up declaring that he also liked guys- which prompted his parents into asking the heavy question of his sexuality. He ended up nervously admitting, at first, that he was bisexual, to the scorn of his parents for having the potential to love guys too. They simply berated him due to the large sum of money they could gain by the arranged marriage. Kai blew up on his parents, letting his pent up emotions break out in a fast and furious flood, much like the one that'd injured him the year before, and in his anger had accidentally given himself blisters from his own steam. He bandaged his hands and simply left, walking out to a nearby hill and looking at the stars. Lani, Ahi, and Mele, who was old enough to know the situation (and had dragged Leo along, making sure he wasn't lonely), found him and comforted him. Ahi ended up proposing that Kai take a break from the island, maybe even find a better career to work his quirks out with. When Kai asked what he meant, Ahi told him about Saino no Aru, the famous elite school in Japan where top-rate heroes could be made. Lani agreed that it'd be perfect for him to go, even mentioning that Kai was already considered a hero to Leo and the tourist's child that he had saved, even without the use of his quirk. Mele even mentioned that he could probably do more WITH his quirks. Comforted by this, Kai grinned, and hugged his siblings, while they all sat and looked at the stars. When Kai returned home, he apologized for snapping at his parents, and his parents also apologized for getting distracted by the money, though they didn't apologize about their own opinions that Kai shouldn't love a person of his own gender, even if he technically loved both genders. He ended up telling them that he wanted to go to Saino no Aru to get away from the topic, and said that he'd eventually attend the school, even if he had to make the money himself. He began training, and on his birthday, his parents bought him the tickets to head over to Japan and attend SnA. He smiled and hugged them, though also told them that he'd prove to them that his love shouldn't be limited to just women, setting out to prove that both genders could be loved equally, and he'd love them both because he couldn't change who he was. But that remark planted a seed in Kai's brain, one that he never quite got rid of during his transfer- he had changed before, six years ago- he could change again, right?
Early Academy Life: Kai joined Saino no Aru with plaguing thoughts on how he'd want to accomplish his goal of proving to his parents that bisexuality wasn't a bad thing, but as he was now, he was awkward around others his own age and even older. He didn't want that, and he subconsciously began to change himself out of that mindset, forcing himself to be extroverted, flamboyant, and passionate, all of which he'd kept buried for six years. This slowly began to subconsciously accumulate to a minor bipolar disorder, wherein he kept switching from being entirely open about his life to entirely closed whenever certain subjects were asked about him. Kai began to consciously realize this issue, and talked to his parents and siblings about it over the phone. They asked the local doctors, since Kai wasn't all that familiar with Japanese yet and didn't exactly want to ask around, and before the semester started, Kai flew back home for a check-up. He was officially diagnosed with bipolar disorder, and even diagnosed him for Dissociative Identity Disorder when they began to see that his mind was trying to create a balance between the extreme highs and the extreme lows of his emotions. They gave him prescribed medication to help managed and suppress either of these when need be, and promised to ship the medication to the nearest pharmacy to the school in Japan. Kai then returned for the semester, and taking the pills began to help. He began to actually manage and sort out the thoughts in his head and even began to figure out how he wanted to portray himself outwardly, with the pills helping to calm his bipolar disorder. Writing also helped Kai keep his thoughts from getting scrambled, and it helped him sort out his two distinct personalities from each other. Once he'd figured out the balance, he began to attend school by allowing his more flamboyant, outward self to be active during school, often trying to reserve his more secluded half for the night. It would be a bumpy ride, but he was determined to keep his goal; and who knows? Maybe he'd become a hero along the way.
Extra | Misc:
Kai's bipolar disorder mostly tends to tie with his Dissociative Identity Disorder, and usually tends to cause Kai the most issues whenever the personalities switch. He usually doesn't like having anyone around when the bipolar disorder kicks in, so he doesn't seem odd or abruptly scare anyone with a direct change.
While writing in journals while his DID began to come about, he began to label and give names to the identities whenever they'd be separate. His more flamboyant, passionate personality is named Akau (Right, as it seemed to be more associated with his right brain), and his more secluded, reserved personality is named Hema (Left, as it seemed to be more associated with his left brain). During school he's mostly in Akau's state of mind.
Kai feels a tad self-conscious about his tattoos simply because it seemed unnatural for a sixteen-year-old to have tattoos, especially at such an esteemed school. Due to this, he'll wear long-sleeved attire and long pants whenever he can, unless he's around someone who knows he has tattoos or he'd be comfortable telling that he has tattoos to.
Kai is also just as equally self-conscious about his scars, which is why he let his hair grow out and was glad that the tattoos tended to cover a majority of them. However, a few aren't covered, and he tends to like to keep those, especially the ones he gave himself from the steam, covered in small bandages or even makeup.
He's surprisingly good at both singing and dancing. Whenever he's in Hema's state of mind, he'll only dance and sing if he thinks he's alone, while when he's in Akau's state of mind, he'll gladly dance and sing while others are around.
Surprisingly, both Hema and Akau are aware of each other's existences, which gives Kai some lenience to try his own attempts at balancing the two personalities subconsciously.
Kai is a native islander to Hawaii, though his ancient ancestors on his mother's side came from Europe. It's so far down the bloodline that Kai just calls himself a full-blooded Polynesian, though he just commonly uses Hawaiian as to not confuse others.
Kai's voice claim is www.youtube.com/watch?v=a_Jd32… ">Jeremy Shada.
Due to his personalities, he finds it rather hard to find a balance wherein someone could get to know the real Kai. However, he'll cross that bridge once he has a close-enough relationship to someone to even reveal that he's got two split personalities.
Due to the incident that occurred when he was nine, he now has a fear of deep water, though this seems to go away when he's sailing. Whenever he's not sailing, however, he'll avoid deep water- the deepest he'll go is to the level of a deep swimming pool.
Kai has a self-proclaimed hatred of coconuts. Akau adopted his lie and actually adopted the hatred towards coconuts, keeping the burning hatred for 'coconuts that scarred his head and embarrassed him', despite such an event never occurring. Hema will openly admit that the coconut event never happened, opting for the truth.
Despite Kai's personalities having names, they simply just refer to themselves as Kai wherever they go, only referring to each other as Akau, Hema, and occasionally Kai subconsciously.
