I love the detail you put into this costume; it really feels like Shiek. It also feels like Zelda could wear this and look masculine but that's less important. xD

That goes for all of the deviations, btw; I just commented on this one because it shows the costume the best. :3

Thank you! Yeah, I had no qualms donning Sheik's outfit because of the ambiguity involved, but I still did my best to meet that half-way line. Comments like this make me feel I achieved that goal ~

Koko: Oh how neat! I'm working on a Sheik cosplay myself. I was wondering,if you could give me a few tips on the construction of the cosplay. Mostly about the vest-like part of the top. Did you have to paint the symbols? I figure it would be the simplest way. I'm not sure of any others. lol any suggestions? ;

In general, if you can make the different parts separate pieces (the "shoes", the "pants", the "shorts") you'll have an easier time working with the spandex. Bandages only have to look like they are wrapped around you, I'm actually wearing sort of a "bandage corsette" which it held together with hooks in the back. Make sure to make a secure turban, or you might have to balance it on your head (you can attach it directly to the wig or custom fit it to your head.)

Sheik's tabard/vest is fairly easy to make, you don't particularly need a pattern of any kind, but you can base it on some panels from a similar looking garment if you don't trust yourself freeforming it. Because Sheik's design is fairly simple, it's easy for each cosplayer to have a different interpretation of how the tabard should look. Remember that the Sheikah are sort of a native near-eastern tribe of the Hyrule setting, and you'll realize paint is a perfectly acceptable medium (that's how my tabard is set up). There are other ways of doing it though, like layered cloth and embroidery. Layering cloth and then either stitching or using iron on adhesive is a great way to go, but it might come out a little stiff. The same warning can go for paint though, because paint can also crack too if you don't pick a suitable textile medium.

Happy hunting!

Koko: Wow! I wish I could glomp you right now o_O.

Thank you sooo much for the detailed information. This is going to help me so much! I hope I can find the things I need. I don't have much trouble making the clothing, it's finding the right clothe and the right colors that I make have issues with. ^ ^; lol

A friend of mine had also suggested adhesive, but I'm going to see if I find more alternatives along with it.
Ahh,I'm so excited to finish it now! And forgive my fan-girl nature but, I totally love you and your cosplays!!!! xDD

lol Thank you again Sensei!!

Yes, the costume was made in 2005 (I have some Ooooold shots in my gallery) but I've improved a lot since then so I decided it was time to debut a fixed up version. All the costumes in my gallery are hand made, and the only thing I buy is the fabric since I don't have cotton fields or a silk worm farm. XD

That's impressive makes me appreciate you more as a cosplayer lol. You did a great job and have alot of guts to cosplay and make such an intricate costume. I cannot use a sewing machine but am slowly learning, hopefully I'll be able to make costumes one day

It's really just like learning to drive an automobile, or ride a bike. Stay balanced and don't go way left or right for no reason! You'll be fine, BUT if you have any questions about particular costumes, feel free to send me a note.
