The german longsword seems a bit too pointy. Is that intended? And I've never seen a Thai Darb before. By which culture was it used and for what?

A German long sword is a one handed weapon am I correct?

I see okay so would a shortsword then be the equivalent to a one handed sword in the case of using it with a Shield also? Or does it just depend on the time period and armour used?

PhelanDavion In reply to CreativeCountryGirl5 [2014-03-23 12:40:02 +0000 UTC]
it depends on the time period and the area...
Roman Legions used a very short sword and a very big shield...
Vikings and Crusaders for example used swords of about 1 meter lenght + shield... (thats europe 8th to 13th century)
...later in the ages of Chivalry and Samurai you`ll find more two handed swords without shield but with full-body-plate -armour.

I've always had a visual fascination for long swords. They have that look of authority and power. Second to this, I like the katana which visually accept anything as it comes as long as it can find the best place to cut through with ease and swiftness. It has a more reserved power and authority that only emerges when the blade and the wielder becomes a single body. The last blade visually speaks to me of practicality. The very basic that defines all three weapons as tools, in the hands of a warrior, where true strength comes from within.

You see a lot of swords from Europe and East Asia, but not so many from Southeast Asia (Thailand, etc). A good inclusion in the set.
Where did you get these?

The Longsword was made by Pavel Moc. The Katana was made by Huawai... and the Darb was a gift from a friend.

Nice stuff you got there.
So ... who's the smith of the longsword? The style looks familiar ...

PhelanDavion In reply to BloodRedFullMoon [2013-07-03 08:53:03 +0000 UTC]
It was designed by Albrecht Dürer: [link]
The swordsmith is Pavel Moc: [link] ...in my opinion he is the No.1 Swordsmith at this time. (And I can say I know them all)

Ah, OK ... figured it was a Moc, but I couldn't see the emblen on the blade clearly... ^^
I always wanted one of his blades. Got a Jiri Novak and a Krondak myself, but that collection shall grow with the years.

Aye, and the same style was also used by the Duke of Bavaria... just with a red crown on the lions head.
