Yeah that was a original idea by that movie, Joker has never been called Arthur fleck in the comics.

There are A Crap Ton of Joker origins, but these one's are my favorite:

1) A former magician and hypnotist who PAINTS himself as a clown (1960s TV version)
2) A factory worker and would-be comedian (THE KILLING JOKE)
3) An ex-mobster from Brooklyn (1989 movie)
4) The son of an alcoholic and abusive father (MAD LOVE)
5) A disfigured veteran of the War on Terror (heavily implied in THE DARK KNIGHT)
6) A semi-immortal who haunted colonial Gotham (ENDGAME)
7) The son of two circus performers (GOTHAM)

And there are many more, but it would be too much trouble to list them all!

Can someone tell me where the heck did phil-cho get "Jokers name". Isn't his name supposed to be unknown. I don't like ig he would have name, because that would make him have little bit of personality. I like him when he doesn't have any other personality than the Joker.Β

GraciousGoodSevens In reply to GutTheCat [2018-10-09 05:48:57 +0000 UTC]

He got it from the 1989 movie, where it was the name of the pre-Joker character portrayed by Jack Nicholson. I think the name is a play on the old-fashioned word "jackanapes," meaning "fool." The name is also used in the recent comic BATMAN: WHITE KNIGHT.

Well the name Jack Napier can be thought of as a reference to β€œjackanapes” meaning β€œfool,” in addition to the fact that this is one of the actual names the Joker has gone under, albeit in some iterations he uses it as a faux name while his real name is still unbeknownst to the GCPD.

Tell me about it. I almost pissed myself when I scrolled down and saw this. This is why I hate clowns. Hell, they scare me so much that once one of my asshole sparring partners showed up as Pennywise from "It" when I was nineteen just to see what would happen. Truth be told, my memory's a bit fuzzy, but I remember roaring at him before coming to about five minutes later, my captains having painstakingly chained my hands behind my back with kusarigama. Fucking clowns...

I really like this. The only thing I would've liked to see more is instead of Jack Napier, it just be listed as "Unknown" like most things have his real name listed as.
Besides that this is really cool and i like it.

is that his actual name in this version, or just an alias they refer to him by, like in the animated series?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 2

GraciousGoodSevens In reply to ImdaBatman [2017-12-31 19:36:17 +0000 UTC]

I think the "official" story is that he has used many aliases over the years. Or it's possible that "he" has even been at least three separate people. ("Jack Napier" would be his Mob incarnation, so I imagine that as his SUICIDE SQUAD alias as well.) Another alias of his has been "Eric Border," which I think I actually prefer.Β

yes, i know all that, i was just asking if this particular version is any different

personally, i like Jerome Valeska

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

GraciousGoodSevens In reply to ImdaBatman [2018-01-06 05:07:06 +0000 UTC]

Jerome Valeska was just a boy who died, so how can he ever be the "real" Joker? He was an interesting take, though: showing that the "Joker curse" can befall literally anyone.

Personally myself, I hope "Jack Napier" makes a return to movies and television (outside of SUICIDE SQUAD, that is, if that really is him). He was a more realistic take on the character, without making him scuzzy and unlikable as Heath Ledger's incarnation was (for one thing, the Joker is supposed to be happy, or at least faux-happy, which Ledger's Joker never seemed to be). Besides, there must be quite a few actors out there who can carry on Jack Nicholson's legacy. Christian Slater is the obvious choice, but I'm sure I could think of others.

That's his patient number, an identification number for the asylum.

But the actual number does have significance. If you break it up like 4-25-40, it refers to April 25th, 1940. That's the date that Batman #1 was released, including the first appearance of the Joker.

It's an alias used in place of a name. Same with Bane.

What names has Bane used? All I can think of offhand is his alias from the 1997 Joel Schumacher movie, "Antonio Diego" (which is actually two first names, but never mind).

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Roysovitch In reply to GraciousGoodSevens [2017-12-31 20:25:55 +0000 UTC]

Diego is a Spanish surname as well. Much like American last names like Spencer, Jackson, Lincoln, Alexander, and more; Diego can be a first name or a surname.

Other names Bane has used in the comics have been Ubu and many others.

In Earth-27, he has used Antonio Diego, Ubu, Eduardo Dorrance, and Abaddon
